Plea to the web site administrators

HI, I have been a member of the caravan club for a few years now and have found finding a site with vacancies on a specific date / weekend / week very tiresome an often frustrating.

I find the only option when using this site is to give the dates you require and the area or site you wish to travel to. Then you have to trawl through the camp sites to find one with vacancies and this is, as most people who use this method to book would agree, is both tedious and laborious. Often this has led me to give up and book with a non CC site.

I will give you our current situation as an example of how infuriatng this can be. My wife and I have 3 children and a dog and would like to visit anywhere in the uk during the summer holidays for a fortnight. So we have our travel dates and put them into the site. we aren't too worried about location, after all we have a touring caravan so that we could go to lots of different places. we leave site name and area blank. We are given a list of sites all of which we have to select individually to find out if there are vacancies. After 50 sites and 2 hours of searching I admit defeat.

Could the web site not offer a feature whereby one can place the dates on which they wish to arrive and depart, pitch type and facilities required and the web site can then give a list of suitable camp sites with vacancies over the required period?

I understand that some members only wish to visit their favourite site and some book way in advance and for those members this would not be a useful feature but I believe most of the users of the site would find the suggested method far easier than the current one.

Sounds a brilliant idea, there are lots of issues with this website wink.  Might be a good idea to actually email East Grimstead and see if you get a response.  Not sure which posts are read, possibly all, but not many are commented on.  We can only suggest what would be useful and hope we are listened too.

I have the feeling that the many problems with this poor example of a forum are being ignored, possibly in the hope that we will get used to it's idiosyncrasies and stop complaining. cry

It could be useful to some perhaps. In reality I would have thought most people decided the area that they wanted, picked a CC site in that area and if not available either checked those shown as nearby or opted for a commercial site or CL if they drew a blank.

Are you finding many sites already booked up? Is there a reason why you search such a large area? How far ahead are you looking and for which dates?

I'd like it would be great if you work and are limited to dates. I'd like it and I don't work - there's so many lovely places to visit and sometimes you opt for what you know. It would be a great way to consider what's available rather than decide on an area and be disappointed. After all in the world of travel you can search by date or pop in the travel agent and you get a choice of destination.

Might be a new way of working for the club and tie up with the rebrand 😉

I'm a bit confused because this is how I use the search already. If you enter your dates you only get club sites with availability on those dates.

Unfortunately though you get all the ASs appearing in the list and there's no way of knowing whether they have availability which is why I'd like to have to opportunity to exclude them from searches.

Can't say that I want a Mystery Tour Bakers. smile

I certainly don't use the same sites or the same areas of the UK.

Never tried a search this way but love the idea. How come AS sites come up but not CL? After all they are both booked direct with site and won't show availability. Another issue of treatment for CL. I think AS are only there to make us think there is a bigger number of club sites than there are. Cynic moi?

Edit I think this is where CT can really help with searching methods and choosing sites 😃

If you are limited to dates for going away it could be nice to have this facility. Sometimes your brain is so full of other things it's nice to have choice restricted. We don't use same sites all the time and do tour, have done almost all the UK. Thus sometimes it's nice to say yeah they have pitches let's go that way. 😃

CLs are on a different database I guess and the club would have no idea of availability so the list of returns would be even longer.

If you use this method for a week in June you will get an awful lot of returns. If you try it a shorter time before you want to travel you get a smaller list but still with ASs. I like it as a search tool if we've got an unexpected few days off but can't be bothered to pick an area then find a site. It works for us

Exactly. I'll try it when I get the chance. Thanks for the tip.
