Can anyone persuade me to go with CC insurance?

New for old quote from CC, £475,

Towergate Select new for old £375.

Then there is the club membership fee to add on to the above quote, we wont use club sites but could use CL's,

£100 or including membership £148 difference, am I missing some benefit or other?

No idea what the service of Towergate is or thec insurer they use but the CC give better cover than any other I have seen whatever others say than anyone except the C&CC policy. The service is first class and the settlements fair. We have found the C&CC policy far cheaper and are trying that.

You have to weigh up your own priorities and decide what suits you.

We insure with Towergate as we store our caravan in France.  Twice we have had occasion to make a claim, and each has been dealt with entirely to our satisfaction.  Both times we have chosen to bring the caravan back to a local dealer that we trust to do a good job, and each claim has been dealt with promptly and efficiently.   Each have been medium size claims (ie not just a few pounds, but not a written off caravan) and each time, fortunately, the caravan has been towable.

No complaints about Towergate here!

Have you seen this from the club, skoda? "Save at least £25* on your renewal premium with Club Car Insurance. We’re dedicated to cutting your motoring costs. When you receive your renewal premium from your current insurer, simply call us and we’ll beat your renewal premium by at least £25*, that’s guaranteed."

Perhaps it's worth asking them again and reference this statement.

Write your comments here...Wildwood I entirely agree that quality of cover is an important element as is approach to claims settlement but are you sure CC give the best cover ? I say that because in some cases what is coverered does not include retro-fitted items "accessories". These could easily amount to 20% of the value of the unit e.g. mover satellite dome system etc etc.

The sum insured should include any accessories and provided the value of these are added you are covered for them. The policy covers the caravan and its accessories although that does apply to most others.

Write your comments here...Looking at the policy wording it would appear that in the Caravan itself is insured

"Caravan/Trailer Tent/ Folding Caravan described in the Schedule, complete with  Fixtures and  Fittings as supplied by the manufacturer' in its as delivered form"  retro-fitted items will also be covered as "Equipment"    with is defined as

"Non-standard Fixtures and Fittings and accessories added since manufacture including awnings, batteries, gas bottles, generators, motormovers, refrigerators, security devices, stabilisers, toilets and the like"

Although I don't particularly like the level of clarity of the definition of "Equipment"  I do agree that it is likely that any particular item of retro-fit equipment will be included however as you point out it is important that the additional value of the items is taken account of when entering into the insurance policy and this is something which will have a bearing on comparisons. I am conscious that the club have not on every ocassion they have quoted me taken me through the issue of equipment.

This thread is about (towed) caravan insurance and my experience with the club relates to M/H insurance. The Clubs website does not have a specimen policy for M/H cover and a quick look at the available information on the website does not make it clear that retro-fit items are included. If and when I seek a renewal quote I will look again at this in detail and I will defer further comment until then.

Motorhomes are placed with a number of insurers so there is no standard wording. The policy should still cover anything additional to the standard spec but you might need to declare it as it might affect the premium.

Following the non competitive quotes obtained from the Caravan Club for car insurance etc.,which I outlined in a forum post earlier this year,I decided to review my Caravan Club, caravan insurance before it came up for renewal in June 2016.

Having been insured with the Caravan Club for the last 16 years (including a short break due to a serious personal accident) I reviewed the market and choose Caravan Guard.

The policy offers some advantages over the Caravan Club policy and also I was able to reduce my excess  by 50% with a saving of £120.00 per annum.

I found Caravan Guard staff very good to deal with, especially as all its staff are fully trained and committed to fully discuss any questions that I raised, concerning the policy.

i am continual concerned that the Caravan Club is not providing some of its membership with value for money car and caravan insurance products and should seriously review its commercial offerings.

Do you not consider dervice levels and claims settlements important as you should be happy they are as goood before taking out other policies. Having said that I am fairly confident CaravanGuard will not be a problem with RSA behind them.

Yes,I did consider service levels and claims settlements when I was reviewing the market as this is a very important consideration in the insurance mix.

I was very impressed with all if the telephone conversations that I had with Caravan Guard staff who were fully conversant with the terms and conditions of their offer.

I have been insured by RSA for car insurance for the last 25 years and found them a very good and efficient insurer.
