Deals - what deals?

I am sure I mentioned this several or more months ago.  No deals to be had in club shop as always cheaper elsewhere.

Should have read and remembered your comments !!  I think that the CAMC should put a warning on their shop to the effect that often items can be purchased from other sources much cheaper. 

It's a shame because this could be a very nice benefit to compliment membership rather than the CAMC just getting a higher commission rate on a higher price.  Very disappointed with the Club.

I've got a CAMC regional meeting coming up and I'll bring the subject up but I can almost predict the answer !

The club shop offers items for sale in the same way as lots of others. Just because one item can be sourced cheaper elsewhere does not mean that applies top everything or the alternative firm will always be the cheapest. Basically you need to appreciate this and do your homework when buying.

If you stop using any retailer because you find one other cheaper for a single item then you will soon run out of places to buy from.

I think one of the problems with any 'deal' is that it is an ever changing market, and a better one can come along any moment.  It can be a really good deal at one moment in time, but the next day someone can overtake.

Totally agree that you have to shop around. I have recently been looking to purchase two new Outwell chairs , I got the price from the CAMC shop and then ‘Googled’  to find them on offer at Go Outdoors at £140 for two, a great deal apart from the fact the deal was for Click and Collect only and the nearest available were over 200 miles away. The chairs are now in stock at Go Outdoors and surprise surprise the deal has ended and are now £10 each more expensive than the CAMC shop, which is also £10 less than the recommended price. So I ordered from the shop and they were delivered in two days.  Happy Camper or is that Happy Motorhomer  ?

Off to France so though I would check Ferry price through the club.  Cheapest was DFDS at £129, special club offer.  Went on the main DFDS site, same ferry same time was £69.  How much do the club get of the £60 mark up for booking through them?

I agree David but we must accept that the CAMC is now a business and must make as much money out of it's members as it can.  I would have accepted the CAMC making £4/£5 out of me to go in the coffers but £20 seemed a bit excessive.  I checked with a couple of companies who were selling the item cheaper and they confirmed that had always sold at that price and it wasn't a fluctuating figure.

Members beware and shop around.

The club shop is not run by them but by a commercial retailer who simply offers members a discount off their prices. Not sure if the club makes anything from the sales but I suspect there is a payment for the club advertising the service.

At the end of the day though a single item being cheaper elsewhere is no way of deciding if the offer as a whole is no good.

By chance I was looking at the latest club offers, and spotted that they had a tie in with Dash4it on O/S maps and mmore. However what's on offer is dearer than one can get direct from Dash4it, and also has a minimum purchase of £10. The club offer is a discount of 35% while one can get 40% discount direct from the company.
