A while ago the CC ( CMC ) were advertising as part of their membership package, a monthly magazine which they said was worth £ 4.00 a month to members.

Reading the following CMC webpage it appears that the magazine's selling price is £1.50 per month.

Stranger than fiction perhaps or just advertising license.

surprised

then why do back issues generally cost more? It doesn't always  go off weight, there could be a discount for large numbers?  It could be that the club (or whoever) has got a special bulk rate on the postage on the first bulk 'sending out' then individual copies go back to the full rate?

I did actually say that further up Corners. My point was the postal service would still charge the same for a back issue if it weighed the same as a new issue. The mere fact that it's a back issue is irrelevant to the post office. OK, then they could give  discount either for members or certain numbers posted. That's up to the two parties to agree.

Anyway we're drifting into the pedantic stage and I think we're just clogging up this thread on a small point.

Main point that if it does cost £2.50 per magazine to send out then it does seem expensive when posting to thousands of members.

Local free papers seem to make a profit from advertisement. Advertisers on Club magazines have a well targeted audience and (when last I looked) there were plenty of adds - but that was admittedly some time ago

The Metro free paper must be doing well as it can be picked up at railway stns on buses and even our local hospital
