A while ago the CC ( CMC ) were advertising as part of their membership package, a monthly magazine which they said was worth £ 4.00 a month to members.

Reading the following CMC webpage it appears that the magazine's selling price is £1.50 per month.

See :- https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-shop/magazines/

Stranger than fiction perhaps or just advertising license.

surprised

Thanks Helen. You have explained how the Monthly magazine has been calculated by the CMC to be worth worth £4.00 to each member.

The mag it'self is only worth £1.50 ------- the majority of what the member pays --- £ 2.50 goes on postage.

So members are paying 12 x £2.50 equalling £ 30.00 just for the distribution. This is much more than half the Annual membership renewal. and amounts to a staggering amount when taken over the combined membership..

Would it not be better to use all that money to update CMC's campsites and purchase new ones.?. or even reduce the site night costs ?.

The magazine could easily be issued on-line, over all IT platforms and save the CMC from all that questionable distribution expense.

Have you found out if your clubs mags are of similar priceswink

I happen to think K makes a valid point, regardless of whether he's a member or not. I was thinking the same when I read the clubs official reply.

Maybe, or maybe not, he was making mischief with his opening post but that is irrelevant if the answer is that the club pay £2.50 to post this rag out. Maybe they only pay that for non members and hopefully negotiate better rates for the bulk posting to members but once again we are left guessing.

isn't the postage price for back issues not perhaps the cost of those sent to members?

Posted on 09/03/2018 20:26

One would hope so but who would want back issues???

We may never know what the true cost is of posting new issues to members.

Surely a posting price is the same for each copy regardless of whether it's a back copy or the current one. What a waste of money!!

well I've bought subscriptions to magazines before but buying a back issue always costed more.

Yes but the Postal service don't know that it's a back issue. They couldn't care less. They go off weight so unless your back issue had a lot more pages it wouldn't affect the price.

then why do back issues generally cost more? It doesn't always  go off weight, there could be a discount for large numbers?  It could be that the club (or whoever) has got a special bulk rate on the postage on the first bulk 'sending out' then individual copies go back to the full rate?

If you mean that the posting cost is a waste of money for CC then I suspect not given advertising revenue.
