Warranties - Using Club Influence for Members

There will be many members whose Caravans or Motorhomes are going to need to be serviced to comply with and safeguard their warranties.

Can the club use their influence, if they have any, to ask all of the manufacturers to extend these warranty deadlines by the same time as the Government deem unnecessary travel to be in force? This would be acting in the interests of their members, particularly those who have been specifically asked to stay indoors for the next 12 weeks.

I cannot see this type of travel as falling within the definition of essential, although it is quite possible that motor vehicles will still need MoTs. Nothing heard yet about what steps the DoT will take on them.

Had an email from the garage where my XTrail is booked for a service and MOT. They are closed except for  priority workers. All other bookings are to be rearranged. (They will contact me) It says for after the 13/4. However, I suspect it will be a considerable time after that date before restrictions are lifted. I suspect this might be the case with a lot of garages, as they will be short of staff and of course have to maintain social distancing. I brought the MOT / service forward a couple of years ago, to avoid when we were away, so my road fund tax does not run out until the end of May, so no need to consider SORN until then.

From gov.uk website :-

If your MOT is due from 30th March, extended by 6 months.

Elddis website says they will not penalise owners for not having van serviced on time, provided done as soon as possible after restrictions lifted

As already mentioned by Burgundy, there has also been an government announcement today about granting an MOT temporary exemption so that if your MOT is due from 30th March 2020 you will automatically receive a six-month extension. It is also advised that you must still keep your car in a roadworthy condition and garages will remain open if you need repairs.

Thanks Ro but is there any chance the Club could make the approach to the rest of the industry to find their response?

All garages are not open - my VW service dept, with whom I have a service plan, are closed until the end of April and there is no indication whether this date might be extended.  As my annual service (already booked) is due by the end of May I do have some leeway to go beyond this for essential use. My first MoT is due by 30th May, and the government’s six months grace does free up any urgency.  If I do find any need to visit a garage, then I would have to visit whatever is available - which would be very unfortunate for a 3-year-old car with less than 13,000 miles on the clock.
