I have recently sold my caravan and will not be renewing her,

A few things in my life mean I won’t be back caravanning,

But it was fun while it lasted..

I have however so it seems renewed for another years membership, (Sep 1st)

I was not aware that I had a direct debit set up, and if I was I would have

cancelled it, anyway, can someone please tell me the best way to stop

this direct debit permanently so that I don’t pay for anymore unwanted membership

benefits, and other holes in my finances for the year..

if you have internet banking just check your DD's on you account and cancel. Or as Whittakerr says contact your bank.  You could also contact the club and ask why they took a subscription if you haven't authorised a DD also ask for a refund

PS make sure its not one of those continuous payment thingy's cos they can be a pain to cancel

If you have online banking, it is likely you can cancel the direct debit without having to go into the bank. However, it is not usually possible on the mobile app, you have to go onto the main online site.

As Whittakerr says you should also inform the club, as the bank will usually inform them of the cancelation, and it will save the club contacting you to check it is not an error.

edit Posted while OP was doing same.

I don't think the club do those continuous payments anymore. I am sure that was why I switched to DD a couple of years ago.

Two things, I can't imagine the Club taking a payment out of your account without authorisation from you? Also when membership comes up for renewal you usually get a letter with new membership cards about six weeks before the payment is taken. Have you recently moved house? What you need to do is to immediately ring the membership department and explain your circumstances. I am sure that if membership has only just been renewed and you have not made use of any Club facilities since the renewal they will consider a full refund. My advice would not be to cancel the DD until you have spoken to the Club as it can cause complications.

My advice would be to cancel the DD Immediately and then let CC Ltd know that you have done so.  Always best to stay proactive and in control wink.

The logic of the situation is that the payment has already been taken so there is not rush to cancel and cancelling could cause complications at the Club end. Far better to sort it out with the Club first. I once cancelled a DD on a Service Contract and as a result nearly lost a large refund. When a DD is cancelled the recipient is also informed by the bank that it has been cancelled which could complicate matters.

I had a DD with Nat trust Eng and did not realise this when I joined NatTrust Sot instead. It was simple for Nat Trust to refund via the DD rather than faff. I would leave it for now
