Singles Penalised

Does anyone else feel that singles are penalised when it comes to deals?  The Club keeps saying that £14 per night is a grand deal for 2 adults and up to 4 children.  True - it is  But for singles it is NOT.  There are over 60,000 of us who do not get the same benefits as families or couples.  Despite my efforts nobody seems to care.  If there are good deals on offer then they should be open to ALL members even if they are lone travellers.  Does anyone else feel the same?

families should not really have to pay for their children

I would disagree - if any person is paying for services used - eg electricity, water, waste, cleaning costs etc then children do need to be paid for, otherwise the price for adults will have to go up to cover all the costs.  This would be unfair on those who caravan without children.

As for being unfair to singles I can see why the OP feels this - the pitch fee is proportionately less if divided between say 4 people with each paying perhaps their person fee plus £2, whereas a single will pay their person fee plus £8 for a pitch. Their use/wear and tear on the pitch should be less than if 4 were occupying it so yes, it is illogical.

Please take a closer look at the prices Tootsie. My OH is going to enjoy a full facility site on his own for just £9.50 a night, in July! All you have to do is take a good long look at the prices, not easy I admit given the dozens of permutations, but there are some absolute bargains if you can be bothered to look for them! Exeter Racecourse site for those that are wondering, great location for him and dogs. Cycling in Haldon Forest and on Dartmoor, close to some nice beaches, great city in Exeter, easy access to main routes. Not quite sure how much cheaper you would want, but I call that a real bargain! And with toilets, showers, laundry etc....

Write your comments here...it's only a bargain if its not bumped off for being a single booking and not leaving 3 midweek days which might or might not be resold, ( according to Rochelle)

Exactly - I read that too and decided that meant that all bookings were not equal - those who have short bookings are definitely seen as inferior in the ''greater good'' so if its a one night or two night booking for a solo be very afraid - the club might be able to sell that pitch to some folk on here who have huge occupancy and make a much better profit.  Watch out for that email.........

Whether a single or a couple you probably use the same amount of electric with the only savings being perhaps water.  After all whether there is one or two people in the caravan you would use the same number of electric bulbs, fridge etc. so why should a couple be penalised if a single gets a discount?

I have some sympathy with you, tootsie, although in fairness I think the club offers solo travellers a pretty good deal compared to some other organisations because of its "pitch + person" pricing structure. But I can see that the statement you gave in your OP does come across as a bit insensitive. As TtDA says, there are some good deals out there but you do have to look them out. Have you tried any CLs? They can also offer some economical rates and are one of the main reasons many of us are club members.

Hope you find some good deals! Happy

I would think that, out of peak period, a single person is often better off on a club site than a CL, as the latter charges a set price regardless of the number in the van.

Write your comments here...OK if a person visits a CC site and the charges are for example  £6.00 site fee and £6.00 per person., A couple will pay £18 per night. A single will pay £12.00 per night. Perhaps I am missing something, but I fail to see see how singles are being penalised. I seems perfectly fair to me.

I think so too, which is why I asked what price they thought they should pay.

I caravan solo and think cc sites offer good value especially when compared with most cls. Usually more facilities and sometimes better quality at a similar or lower price.?

If Exeter is too far, try Hebden Bridge!  £10.60, not including any midweek discount.

All you have to do is search the sites, bargains are out there!
