Should users be fined?

Our 'breathable' groundsheet is a fairly loose weave and does let a lot of light/moisture through. We use it as it does help to keep the soil/grass/leaves out of the van and is pleasant to sit out on. Agree - the awning skirts are a problem.

Groundsheets are supposed to be lifted, ostensibly daily, although I must confess to doing mine on alternate days. Grass is always still green when I leave apart from the four pads of the steadies.

We used our openweave rubbery type groundsheet last week. I checked the grass underneath daily and could see no problem. Under the caravan step the grass had actually grown through the holes to about 3". When we took the groundsheet up after a week there was no patch showing and absolutely no difference to the rest of the grass. Fact. And we prefer grass too.

I am another who thinks all groundsheets should be banned on grass pitches. The ruloe on lifting them daily is simply unenforceable and the alternative would mean wardens had to check all awnings on grass pitches and tell those whose looked suspect nto remove them.

If a pitch is damaged the wardens should know who was there and report back to the club. I doubt fines would be easy to enforce but a letter should be sent to the guilty parties with photos and making it clear this was unacceptable and if it happens again they will have action taken against them.

So is it time for all pitches to be hardstandings, some with artificial grass so people can put ground sheets down?

If you want a hardstanding there are plenty of sites that have tons of gravel for you park on ... or there's a the local Tesco/Asda Wink. I'll stick to grass when I can with my breathable ground sheet Cool

Hi Corners, you are a teacher, how can grass make chlorophyll through a groundsheet?

I am sure LR is not making it up but this is puzzling me.

not sure I follow you, my post merely stated that there will be fewer grass pitches as time goes on so the issue of needing groundsheets will diminish, I was not following on from LR just making a point about the the OP question

Ok, never mind. I just thought you might have been able to help answer something.
