One Day Bank Holiday Weekend

Well I am here to moan about the poor process that the caravan club operates.

I work full time and have a family. I am also self-employed so time with my family is precious and limited.  Over the last few years it has become increasingly harder perhaps impossible, to book and plan our holidays.

Firstly we are forced to decide on a working day in December, when, where and how long we would like to go to any destination for the year. It’s like a rugby scrum as the website is so busy and overloaded that it keeps crashing and the page needs refreshing.

Secondly, if you’re lucky enough to get the site you fancied and got through on the website, you can’t book it because someone has only booked the Saturday but either side of the weekend is free. This seems to be on all of the sites including bank holidays or summer holidays.

I don’t think I am ‘just unlucky’ as I have noticed a few people comment in the caravan magazine (March issue 2016). We generally try and get as many weekend breaks as we can but due to the nature of the booking process and people being allowed to book one night we have been forced for the last few years to book on private sites, with our friends who have also been members of the caravan club for years.

It is now decision time for us as yet again for the Easter breaks we have booked a private site near the Lakes.

Shame on you Caravan Club! We pay membership for a service we cannot receive and yet your happy to take our monies each year.

Block booking :-- Does that mean that any group of caravanners who block book pitches on a CC site are entitled to the same huge discounts per night that those from rally centres are given..

That will be an advantage to those with an extended family of caravanners.

But what about the couple who camps independantly on say pitch number 10 paying £ 23.00 per night being pitched next to someone on pitch no 11 who is paying considerably less for the same goods and services just because there was that "block book" loophole.

Some people might think that is a tad unfair.

..Have I missed something again ? where do we find out how much if any, considerably less reduction is available

We were on a package holiday in Gran Canaria a couple of years ago. There was a guy there, on his own (unsurprisingly!) who we must have overheard almost every day at the bar/pool/restaurant asking other s how much they paid and when had they booked. It would have been sad if it hadn't been so entertaining.

The last thing I'm bothered about when on a holiday of any description is what other people paid and whether they're getting a slightly better deal than me. It all harks back to the "it's not fair, he's using more electricity than me" debate it seems to me!

Just get on with your holiday and enjoy life! Happy

Since when is approximately £3 "considerably less" than £20. It is a small cost saving. And what about those who paid using site night vouchers? After all, they are paying nothing at all, should we ostracise them too? The opportunities are available to all members, if they choose not to take advantage of them then that is their choice and they shouldn't complain about it.

Looks to me more than 10% in cost saving - do you not think that is not considerable ?

Not sure where the figure of £3 comes from. The only amount I can see from someone who knows is £1.50 ( page 13 on the other thread). Am I going to jump up and down and stamp my feet about that? Wink

As an example there is a rally for the Northern Region AGM in December which will be on the Beechwood Grange site. The cost for the weekend is £33. If you book on the site independently for the same dates it will cost you £39.60. Difference of £3.30 per night. As I said, it is a small amount rather than a considerable difference. If you are planning to go to Beechwood Grange for the first weekend of December, book on the rally, it will save you £6.60. By the way I have no gripe to justify. I am merely trying to state the facts.

Or just less than a pint of Doom Bar! I'm sorry, but I'm still not going to jump up and down and stamp my feet! Particularly as there is a straight forward solution of just signing up for the rally !
