One Day Bank Holiday Weekend

Well I am here to moan about the poor process that the caravan club operates.

I work full time and have a family. I am also self-employed so time with my family is precious and limited.  Over the last few years it has become increasingly harder perhaps impossible, to book and plan our holidays.

Firstly we are forced to decide on a working day in December, when, where and how long we would like to go to any destination for the year. It’s like a rugby scrum as the website is so busy and overloaded that it keeps crashing and the page needs refreshing.

Secondly, if you’re lucky enough to get the site you fancied and got through on the website, you can’t book it because someone has only booked the Saturday but either side of the weekend is free. This seems to be on all of the sites including bank holidays or summer holidays.

I don’t think I am ‘just unlucky’ as I have noticed a few people comment in the caravan magazine (March issue 2016). We generally try and get as many weekend breaks as we can but due to the nature of the booking process and people being allowed to book one night we have been forced for the last few years to book on private sites, with our friends who have also been members of the caravan club for years.

It is now decision time for us as yet again for the Easter breaks we have booked a private site near the Lakes.

Shame on you Caravan Club! We pay membership for a service we cannot receive and yet your happy to take our monies each year.

The simple answer is no as the club does not allow rallies on their sites during busy periods.

Unfortunately they do allow rallies on site at weekends, as we found out.LaughingEither that or the wardens allowed 20+ vans in on a Monday morning by 12:30 when we arrived, so some must have been there well before 12:00 if that was the case.

Of course they allow rallies at weekends but only during times of the year where the site is under uyilised. As usual we can rely on K to interpret what we say in a different way to what was intended. Laughing

Hence my appreciation of your statement. --- My Quote :-   Since Weekends are, for CC sites, their busiest time, it is gratifying to hear there will be no rallying on a CC site at that time.

There is a letter with a similar theme to yours Jimbo in the March issue of the CC Magazine. However it is difficult to understand what it says, as it seems to infer that the Club has allowing the Easter Saturday to be solely booked up?? I think that what has occurred is that with the coming and going of members the only night over that weekend that is fully booked is the Saturday night, and that it's not something that the club has "managed". Members are allowed to book whichever nights suit them  and occurances like this are bound to happen with a TOURING population.

So it is established that The Caravan Club do not allow rallies on their sites except when they do, and with a pecunary advantage to some and not others.

Is that the end then?

Probably not, nav. Strange that we've not heard from HO or one of the ralliers. Although I think that your comment is in the wrong post.Happy

Its not just CC Centres that rally. It is perfectly possible for people who form a rally to book direct in the same way as everyone else and then just choose pitches as close together as possible.  The club has no control over that, nor do the "ralliers" have preferential fees. If you find yourself in the middle of such a rally hard luck.

We have established that the club does allow some rallies during quiet periods and there is a small pecunary advantage to the ralliers. However as CC rallies are open to all CC members that pecunary advantage is also available to all.

Block booking :-- Does that mean that any group of caravanners who block book pitches on a CC site are entitled to the same huge discounts per night that those from rally centres are given..

That will be an advantage to those with an extended family of caravanners.

But what about the couple who camps independantly on say pitch number 10 paying £ 23.00 per night being pitched next to someone on pitch no 11 who is paying considerably less for the same goods and services just because there was that "block book" loophole.

Some people might think that is a tad unfair.

Not  really,  K !  Why  should  I  pay £23  for  a  pitch  for  me  &  my  wife  &  brood,  when  you  have  the  same  size  pitch  all  to  your  self  ??Wink

Since when is approximately £3 "considerably less" than £20. It is a small cost saving. And what about those who paid using site night vouchers? After all, they are paying nothing at all, should we ostracise them too? The opportunities are available to all members, if they choose not to take advantage of them then that is their choice and they shouldn't complain about it.
