Membership Fee Increase

The club magazine arrived today. So far I've had a quite flick through 😉. Tucked in there is notice of an increase in membership fees from £49 to £51 on 15 December 2017. If you want to add family members (is that children?) another £8 no increase for 4th year running.

Have just rejoined the friendly club, with paper magazines and site book £44 - less £38 for digital.

That's quite a big difference between the 2 clubs 😲. I suppose the cost of name change and subsequent signs etc has to be recouped through membership fees as well as pitch increases?

We will continue to belong while CL use suits us, there isn't a club site in our county.....

I joined both Clubs many, many years ago because the sites they ran were almost the only show on the road. We tried other non Club sites back in those days and I shudder to recall how bad they were. It was hard to get information about them, and there were no reviews. But that's not the case now. There are just so many alternatives.

So, although I am still a Club member, the question is if I were starting  at age 30 all over again would I join either Club? I really do doubt it. There are so many other good sites these days and there are so many more insurance companies. And the internet gives information about them all in a way we never had before. I am sure I wouldn't pay to join either Club as a newcomer with things as they are now.

this is why I am bowing out when I got my little camper March 2014 I excitedly joined the club as I knew the pricing from been a member previously for me it's one pitch fee plus I adult rate ,I not get any discounts the club wont insure me .ferry crossings are no good I not travel abroad bogof to places isn't any good when your on your own I stayed in Sept at a Park Resorts site even with £1 each extra for my 2 dogs it was only £9 night ,midweek discount is only on at certain times of the year ,I'm going to a site at Xmas which again is cheaper than the club sites that time of year ,so I've found by doing a bit of research I can go places cheaper

Well, by being a member of the club I have managed to save over £80 on my ferry deal with 5 Camping Cheques thrown in plus I do use CLs when in the UK, so the slight increase won't impact on any decision to remain. A big thank you to the booking staff at EG by the way.

I can see the sense in Eurotravellers comments about not joining if younger and with a family. The Club really hasn't shed its image of old and crusty, no matter what EG think.

If CC is 'close to being uncompetive' then surely that means that it is competitive?

In some cases it is uncompetitive. There are many factors to consider, e.g. like for like, charges for dogs and awnings and not least the cost of children. If you do find a commercial site to your liking and don't have a dog or wish to put up an awning then the chances of finding a good commercial site cheaper are better. I regularly stay at a good commercial site cheaper than any of the Club sites around the area. The more the Club puts up its prices the more chance there is of finding cheaper sites just as good and sometimes better. Competitiveness is not just about prices either, it is also about facilities and sometimes I will pay a little more for these rather than stay at a Club site.

ET, You may well notice Club sites full at weekends in peak times but that does not maximise income for the Club if they half empty for the rest of the week.

I agree with eurotraveller. The idea of joining a club to go camping seemed rather bizarre and old fashioned to us when we switched from tent to caravan.

We joined purely to get insurance. It was the cheapest quote even with the 'compulsory' membership. I do use sites and CLs and we've done well through the discount vouchers. We've even had a few ferry deals but it still feels bizarre and old fashioned to belong to a club laughing

I’m a bit late joining this discussion, but I’ve been in touch with the club regarding these continual membership increases. They really should be politicians, because they don’t give you a straight answer. They won’t reply to my second email, as to why they have increased the membership subscriptions by 39% in the last 8 years. It’s obviously because they are greedy and want to make enormous profit, at our expense. This is not a club which is working for its members.

I will not be renewing my membership!

I think that the charges are good value when compared to C&CC subs

Name one thing that doesn't go up year on year in the service industry, Onefoot.

It's inflation, it’s economic growth. Bills have to be paid and books have to be balanced. We all have the choice of paying or leaving as you have decided to do. It's a free country.

The way you are talking implies that you simply have to use club sites?

If you think that something is not good value for money or too expensive then don't buy it as you intend to do. But I do wonder if you write to all organisations, companies, shops... that put up their prices?
