We keep reading about how members would do things differently, so here is your chance to put these suggestions all together.

If I was a Warden I would . . .

From my experience of sites on the continent, particularly France and Spain, they cram us in, they are not particularly  interested in demanding one set of defined behaviours (rules). They expect us to live cheek by jowl and enjoy it whilst doing so.

However, that may just be it, we seem to be far more tolerant abroad when we expect this type of 'buzz' and diversity on a site and just accepted it as the norm. Thing is we don't quiet accept this on our club sites. I for one enjoy both experiences but I know which I prefer when back home.

I dont recognise  this description of continental  sites Micky but then I am fortunate  in not having to travel in the peak weeks of July and August. If you have found sites like this any other time  I just wonder why you didnt just move on.

Just my experience as stated , I also said I didn't mind that experience.  They, the Southern European fellow 'campers' did have a different cultural ethos towards their experience, they did have their siestas and did congregate in parties  for dinner much later in the cool of the night, sitting out together until the early hours. We Northern Europeans tended to enjoy the afternoons and retire earlier in the evening. Like I also said I quite enjoyed these differences and I wouldn't think anyone complained about the 'noise' after 10:30pm  Which could go on for several hours or for that matter, that made during their siesta period.

I was more intrested in the "cram us in" remark,we dont use sites like that and mostly have much more space than you will ever find at 6m spacings on club sites.

I do however recognise your description of the southern european habit of cooking and eating late particularly the Spanish but its their country andwe have to accept it

the sites we were using tended to be in the more remote areas as they suited our needs (mountaineering, walking and kayaking). For the most part they were in stunning settings with breathtaking views but the price paid was the sites owners had to make the most of the limited useful space available, consequently we were often very close to our neighbours. However, we often found them hospitable and very friendly neighbours, often inviting us to join them for drinks and a chat.

With 35000 sites (at least) in europe its a matter of choice and we dont choose sites like that.

Thats why we are at home now but even in May when the excellant site we use in Portugal was pretty near full  it didnt alter the size of the pitches and we could have got two Club site offerings into ours. Its a matter of choosing carefully and  moving on if its not to your liking, not something that is that easy here

...But as is stated all the time but seems to get lost, if this little island had the space of "other countries"
