Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

Rocky, we will never know untill the figures are published in 2024. From past figures I have seen something like 50,000 members ( a ballpark estimate) do not renew membership but this  is usually balanced out by new members joining or others rejoining.

I think it is to be expected that from the boom in staycations to 382,000 members, this will drop in later years?????

Thanks PD👍🏻, my post was being mindful of DK’s post-2147hrs yesterday which suggests membership is at record levels. This may be why CAMC are not engaging with the ‘leaving in droves’ narrative👍🏻

According to the Q1 figures this year peedee membership is still at an all time high. More importantly membership retention is also at an all time high so there's no leaving in droves at all.

So it’s probably just a few like myself with our own reasons for Ieaving and maybe, as in my case, it has nothing at all to do with site fees despite what some folk would have us believe 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not necessarily so across the piece...

Its certainly possible that high pitch prices have caused a rethink but it may be that some, myself included, DO retain their membership but do so for reasons other than visiting club sites which might now seem beyond their VFM figure.

Ive just renewed my membership so I'll be 'on the retained list', but we won't be visiting any Club sites. Like plenty of others, we are only in the club now for CL use or other benefits.

retained memberships will continue to bring in a good deal of regular cash but if the 'vans on pitches' numbers don't cut it then we'll see more spontaneous offers and perhaps other price changes🤷🏻‍♂️

We are the same, and in fact have rejoined C&CC. We are just completing a trip of 61 nights, and where we would have in the past probably stayed on couple of CC sites, this time we have used 7 CLs and 6 C&CC sites, and the average cost per night was £17:47. Had we used CC sites it would have been an awful lot higher.

We have re joined C&CC Nellie, after around 25 years away. We were camping last time we were Members, I used to have a couple of camping holidays with my sister, so we used CS sites.

Off to our first CS tomorrow in fact, Mow Cop area. Biddulph Grange is the lure, a full day around the gardens. Probably one at a time if it’s very warm, so pooch is ok.

We haven’t used a Club Site at all this year, only stayed on two last year as well. Ferry Meadows in March before VAT offer finished, and a couple of nights at Clumber to watch TofB. Those two nights were most we have ever paid for a Site. Probably a lot more now.

We join purely for CLs, and get our joining fee back via special offers.

Very much agree with your last sentance David but surely the figures quoted in the latest magazine are historic and not what is happening this year?

Peedee

Again I don't have the magazine with me at the moment but I thought the report was from a very recent Club Council Meeting so I would have thought that the figures would be reasonably up to date? Given the importance of the Club Council would it really be given out of date figures? I don't suppose anyone is going to confirm that and perhaps we will have to wait until the AGM report is published later in the year?

I don't know about the CS, so let me know what you think, but we use Messuage Farm, north of Congleton when we visit Biddulph and the other properties in the area. Enjoy your trip over there.
