Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

The fact that availability is Low is not necessarily reflective of actual occupancy.

Last November we went to Poolsbrook which was showing availabilty as low but on arrival we found more than half the pitches unoccupied. On querying this with the wardens we were told that pitch numbers had been lowered to enable them to carry out pitch maintenance.

It's not about how many empty pitches you see it's about how many are for sale.

But surely in that case 'Low' was an accurate description of availability as not all empty pitches were bookable. I’m not sure what your point is.🤷🏻‍♂️

Edit: cross posted with JK who put it in a nutshell.

Trust me NTH, every moan and groan and complaint certainly gets sent further up the chain.

But do those further up the chain take any notice of what you pass on? 🤔 Do you get a response from them, highlighting what they think of the complaints and how they intend to remedy the problems?

Club staff are responding to a lot of comments on Trust Pilot, these are the latest comments coming in.

They may be responding to some on an open forum, where others can see them, but do not seem to responding to direct queries, probably waiting for the individuals to give up the ghost when they do not get a response.yell

Yes that's right, pitch availability might be LOW but this doesn't mean the site is full. So this doesn't mean bookings are up just by seeing the word LOW. smile

Yes but you're quoting just one site at one time of the year (November) when it's unlikely to be full anyway and when it would be a good time for pitch maintenance I would say. Quoting November alone doesn't necessarily show anything?

However when one is seeing low (and full) across a number of sites (some of which are the most expensive) in peak months as I posted then it is difficult to think all these sites having pitch maintenance and I think it shows healthy bookings. I've checked all my booking for the next few months and they are all like that especially on SP, check out Hawes as one example, it's low from now till June and you'll be hard pushed to get a weekend on a SP, but I'll be able to see when I get there to give a better picture.

In my experience low meaning exactly that and from a full selection of pitches.

FOMO is alive and well when it comes to booking pitches?

Had to look that one up CY but sadly by the way things are being advertised I'm inclined to agree.

I think lots of product advertisers try to invoke that fear (pre-order of books phones etc) Works even better where there is an actual shortage. I don’t see anything particularly wrong in that, the CAMC is a commercial organisation, out to make a profit. Even if that is ploughed back into the organisation.
