Welcome to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

Ever since we came together as a group of outdoor enthusiasts 110 years ago, our Club has continued on a journey of discovery. It's time for us to make some changes for the better by redefining who we are to help you get the most of the great outdoors.

I’m sure you all have lots of questions, please post your feedback and queries in this thread.

What does our new logo mean? We created a video to explain how we created it:

I honestly don't care what they call the club but I would have liked the handbook in the post rather than a sticker that i'm not going to use.  Would also like to be able to book hardstanding pitches as i did during the trial.

What a total waste of members money. I have no problem whatsoever with motorhomes, however for the life of me can't see the logic behind changing a 110 year old name.

I think the club should be praised for being brave and biting the bullet to enable the club to move with the times and stay fresh.

Whimpy didn't change and where are they now?

However, some members are posting threads asking why they were not consulted in this?

Simple answer to this is you get surveys after visiting sites, this is your opportunity to have your say ! If you do not complete the surveys then how can you complain?

You will find that these surveys will become more comprehensive and the relevant sites will be given the results, this will enable the site to develop and enhance our visits....

What survey ???

i only use CL's and have never seen a survey , especially asking if I am happy with the name / branding of MY club

I suspect that all promotional videos suffer from the same thing in that they only deal with fluffy concepts rather than cold hard facts.  I don't see anything particularly wrong with the video but the hard nosed won't be convinced by it because they probably don't want to be? I did spot a deliberate mistake, did anyone else? All the site names have the word Certificated Location after them!!!

What we have not really learnt from this change are the real management reasons for the change. Had we had a better insight into that reasoning perhaps more people might have been more sympathetic to the change. Is the Club membership increasing, static or falling? If the latter two are the case the Club would be concerned as future investment could be at risk. Where is the future growth in this segment. It seems to be motorhomes, owned by younger people. How comfortable does the name Caravan Club fit with what might be the future lifeblood of the Club? I imagine lots of background analysis went into the decision for this name change. Perhaps what we all need to think about is what the Club will look like in ten years time, not what its like now, or what it was like 20 years ago. If we reflect on that maybe its easier to reconcile the decision.

David

Lots of amusing and cutting comments from members here.  Sadly, many of them have more than a ring of truth.  But that's the club for you; on this occasion, window dressing appears to have taken precedence over improving service to members ( a user-friendly website would help keep my blood pressure in check). That said, rebranding was long overdue and on balance I prefer the new logo, such as it is.

Glad you like the new logo JT,

This is the first step towards offering improved services to our members. Stay tuned while the Club continues to evolve smile

Well said David.  Like you I cant be asked to wade through all this negative drivel.  The club needs to move forwards and yes its only a name and logo but it does more represent the outfits on site and the MH facilities do need upgrading ASAP on most sites.  All the new posters on here it is a shame they cannot be positive, embrace the change and move on, the cost of rebranding is not that high compared to income and who knows it may tempt some younger blood into the club rather than the dinosaurs who seem to have crawled out of the woodwork on here.,  I personally though the old logo was terrible and the name has been changed over the years before becoming the Caravan Club  so what's the big deal.

Accept it, move on and lets hope the club goes from strength to strength.

Does anyone else find it a little arrogant for 'new posters' to be told what to think and say? Or is it just me?

I suggest the Executive Committee don't understand at all what the members want as the overall majority of people in this discussion seem against the change if only because of what it has and will cost. Remind me again how much it will be, oh no one will tell us that.

Posted on 22/02/2017 13:03

Hi Spuz

The cost has been planned and budgeted in advance. It is being met from normal trading expenses. The amount is affordable, as it represents a tiny fraction of the Club’s turnover and will not impact any of the Club’s plans for investment in sites or club services. Many of the costs are in consumable items such as uniforms, signage and so on which need replacing on an ongoing basis in any case. We have delayed the launch of the sites directory and handbook (which will be distributed this month) for example to make sure that this has the new branding for all of its two year life and so there has been no extra costs incurred.

We expect that the new brand will generate a higher profile and increased interest for the Club which will improve membership recruitment and retention and increase usage of club services so that the Club is even more successful in the future than it is now.

I re joined the club a couple of years ago after a long break from caravanning and was not dismayed to see that motorhomers were also members. I am equally not dismayed to see motorhomes on the sites that I stay on. The addition of the word "motorhome" to the title of the club that I belong to makes no difference to the service that I get from the club nor does it, in some way, make me feel inferior. Are there not more important things in life to get excited about?

And another thing..An email to me from the club suggesting that something exciting was happening included the following slogan:

"Open your doors on great"

Ah, well.   That's great.

Posted on 22/02/2017 13:05

... and it continued "Everything we do is to help you get even more from the great outdoors."

As an existing member with a motorhome, I so glad that now knowing that I can take my motorhome to a club site will enable me to "get so much more from the great outdoors". - Except that the new logo may rather spoil the view.

And the lack of investment in sites that the money could otherwise have been used for may make the 'other club's' sites more attractive.
