Why stay here ...

Why not stay at Glyn Abbey Golf Club with your own caravan or motorhome? You don’t have to be a golfer. You might wish to stay down to watch the racing at Ffos Las Racecourse just across the road or to enjoy the local walks, cycling, fishing or just the beauty and peace of the Gwendraeth Valley. There is a network of footpaths through the golf course, so you can enjoy the beauty of our course whether you play or not.

Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan beach, both multiple award winners, are just 5 miles away. Easily reached by car or bike, these make great days out for the family. Why not visit the town of Kidwelly and it's Castle, just 4 miles away? Carmarthen, the oldest town in Wales, can be reached in 20 minutes. Of course with everything available at Glyn Abbey you may just wish to stay on site! Our parkland course, with mature woodland and fabulous countryside views, is truly beautiful and you are able to walk all around it. There is also a footpath along the old mineral railway running along the bottom of the Course that stretches from Pontnewydd to Pontyates.

There are 5 pitches on the Fforest Fach site, just steps away from all the facilities of the Clubhouse, but in a quiet, secluded area surrounded by mature trees.

Fforest Fach is immediately below our 9 hole pitch and putt Course, so perfect for the family to go straight out to use this. If staying with us you can purchase anytime use of this facility for just a few pounds and rent clubs as well, so you can go back and forth as you wish without having to come to reception. Golfers will of course appreciate the 18 hole Abbey Course, designed by Dr Martin Hawtree.

There is a dedicated entrance for the caravan park, which is a very gentle slope designed specifically for caravans. The central roadway is 5 metres wide to make parking easy, and each bay is a minimum 10 metres long and 12 metres wide, half hard standing and half grass, so the largest units can be easily accommodated together with any awnings and even your car – or you could leave it in the car park just a few steps away.

Every pitch has its own electric hook up naturally, and there is a dedicated water supply and chemical disposal point. Users are welcome to use the toilet and shower facilities in the main clubhouse at any time during our normal opening hours.

Enjoy a pint of real ale in our bar or on the patio overlooking the course. Sundays are just made for our Chef Carol's spectacular carvery.

With an 18 hole golf course, a 9 hole pitch and putt course, a driving range, a fantastically well equipped gym, a bar (with free wifi) and a great restaurant all on site, there is plenty on offer for the whole family.

Not what expected

Glyn Abbey Golf Club
Stayed here as it is very close to family. It is a very simple site with water and hookup, however we have stayed at many CL's and this was the worst. Very run down, hard standing had some sort of black rubber underneath which was shredding and not easy to keep from traipsing into the van. The drinking water is right next to the sluice, not ideal. No bins anywhere, we stayed for 2 weeks and no-one seemed to know we were there No welcome at all, in fact we could probably have stayed the 2 weeks and left, not sure anyone would have been the wiser, we went into the clubhouse to pay on the last day and they didn't know who we were !!! Saying all this, there is plenty to do in the area and as a base for touring it is good.

Disappointing!

Glyn Abbey Golf Club
The site was scruffy and run down. Access to water, grey and black waste was acceptable. No bins available or not told where they were. Certainly didn't see any or recycling area. The site being situated between the 2 courses was quite noisy grass cutting started at 6am. Would not return or recommend unless you just want play golf. We live next door to golf so are quite use to hearing the mowers but are not allow to start before 7am weekdays and 8am weekends.

Needs updating

Glyn Abbey Golf Club
The first thing is that sat nav takes you to the lane down the road so make sure your in the correct place as you wouldn't want to take a caravan along that lane. The site is needing a make over it's not at all like in the pictures now. The pitches are tarmac planings with weeds and fake grass. The surrounding wooden fencing is overgrown with brambles etc. The pitch we were on had the electric box held to the post with a cable tie !. The golf course its self is fine, the club house needs doing up inside and out. Communal showers and the only time I used the toilet, it was very dirty. With some work and few trees and brambles cut back pitches cleaned up it could be a good site.

Not what it says on the tin

Glyn Abbey Golf Club
Handbook says exclusive loos and showers. Not so. Only facilities are in the clubhouse and only accessible when it is open. Whilst mens can be acccessed from outside (when door unlocked), ladies is only accessible through the bar which was a bit unnerving when they were all gathering for their daily round. Whilst ladies had shower cubicles (2 of) with shower curtains, the mens were communal showers. Only water we saw was by right by the chemical disposal and not that keen to use that for van when also used to wash elson out. Staff were ok but would not stay here again or recommend anyone else to stay unless of course you want a round of golf and they let outsiders play (we don't so didn't ask). PItches were dead grass - not quite sure why.

Little gem of a campsite

Glyn Abbey Golf Club
We loved it here! The site itself is ok, nothing fancy but everything you need. It was lovely and quiet at night, just us and an owl. The welcome from staff and members of the golf club was tremendous, within 5 minutes it felt like we had lived there forever. The beer was good and the Sunday lunch was outstanding. We'll definitely be back to stay again.
