Why stay here ...

Isabel and George look forward to welcoming you to Mains of Machermore Farm. Our Farmhouse is adjacent to the CL site, so we are on hand to assist if required. Our aim is to make your stay with us everything you would wish from a modern CAMC Certificated Location.

On the site, each of the five serviced pitches have hardstanding with a grass area, water tap and grey water drain. Five electric hook ups are also conveniently located for ease of use. The "Wee Hoose" contains a shower, toilet and wash hand basin for exclusive use of the CL. Wifi is also available as well as an excellent TV reception.

Mains of Machermore is a family run farm situated a mile from the market town of Newton Stewart, also known as the Gateway to the Galloway Hills. The CL site benefits from lovely views of the surrounding hills as well as our Belted Galloway cattle, other livestock and wildlife which live here on the farm. We are always delighted when our summer visitors of swallows and swifts return each year.

Close by there are an abundance of activities. Being the Gateway to the Galloway Hills there are lots of walks with a Walking Festival every year in May. Wigtown, Scotlands Booktown, is a 15 minute drive away with the annual Book Festival that happens at the end of September which usually has around 500 different events over the course of ten days. Horse riding is less than a mile away, 7 stanes mountain bike course approximately 5 miles, Laggan Outdoor Activity centre (15 minute drive), golf courses, beaches, places of historical interests are all close by. We are also on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park and Dark Sky Park which gives wonderful opportunities to see the solar system in all its splendour. For those who like a tipple we are approximately two miles from the new Harbour and Hills Gin Crafty Distillery with Bladnoch Whisky Distillery a 15 minute drive away. For the young and young at heart, the extremely popular Cream O Galloway and the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory are a 30 minute drive away. We are also just a 40 minute drive from the port of Cairnryan and the ferry crossings to Northern Ireland.

As well as being the ideal location to explore South West Scotland, Newton Stewart is home to a cinema, Chinese, Indian and Italian restaurants as well as other traditional restaurants. Supermarkets Aldi, Co-op, Costcutters and Sainsburys are all within the town as well as three petrol stations. The Merrick Leisure centre contains a swimming pool, gym and games hall.

For further details and booking information please see our Website. Advance booking would be advisable at holiday or peak season times. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.

Nostalgic return to Newton Stewart

Mains of Machermore Farm
A beautiful well maintained site with excellent facilities. Easy to find. Flat hard standing pitches. Immaculate WC and shower within in wet room and adjacent to an information area. Ideal for us as the EHU is metered and we don't need to use it. Very peaceful. Easy walk into Minnigaff and Newton Stewart. Lovely views in all directions. Very peaceful and quiet. Very good value. Friendly and helpful owners. Would highly recommend this site and book well in advance as it is clearly very popular.

Mains of Machermore Farm
Lovely and peaceful site. Stayed two nights. A friendly and helpful welcome from Isobel. It's a working farm and loads of animals around. The scenery is beautiful. The facilities are clean and well maintained. I highly recommend it.

Great wee site

Mains of Machermore Farm
A last minute overnight stay because we needed power and showers. Lovely wee site. Fields next door had calves and lambs, so lots to see. Very clean shower room - nice to see a sensible shower area with room for drying and handrails. Both owners popped over at different times, and were friendly and helpful. EHU is metered so you only pay for what you use (wish more places did this). Would definitely recommend this site

Winter warmer

Mains of Machermore Farm
We stayed a couple of nights mid November and it proved perfect for our week long break in Dumfries and Galloway. Isobel, the owner, braved a windy and dark evening to welcome us. We’d managed to set up earlier in the afternoon and were very glad of the hot shower provided in the ‘Wee Hoose’, the facility can only be described as home from home. Exceptionally clean and well serviced. Firm and level hard standing means I wouldn’t hesitate to stay anytime of the year. The post code takes you straight to the site too. As others have stated the site is located just outside the Galloway forest park and only a couple of miles from Newton Stewart were there is a Sainsburys and Aldi next to each other in the centre of town. A large free public car park adjacent is easy to manoeuvre in a motorhome.
