European campsite improvements 2021

With travel restrictions in force over the last few months, many of our Club-approved campsites used this lockdown period to make a few changes and improvements.
If you’re planning your next European break away, have a look at Lou P’tit Poun in south-west France or Roquetas de Mar in the south of Spain, both have made renovation improvements to their leisure facilities for you to enjoy…

(A39) Lou P'tit Poun, Aquitaine, France
Located near Bayonne, the Capital of the French Basque Country, in south-west France, Lou P’tit Poun campsite offers a wide range of amenities and activities, making it a perfect secluded spot for all the family. Enjoy the beauty of nature with the combination of both sea and lakes close by, as well as the Pyrenees mountains and the pine forests of Les Landes. Just don’t forget your camera to capture these stunning landscapes!
You’ll receive a warm welcome from the lovely Sauvy family, who will happily recommend local cycle paths for you to explore, as well as organising weekly entertainment during the busy months. The lavish site boasts large spacious pitches separated by hedges and various mature trees ensuring a quiet and relaxing location. Lou P’tit Poun took advantage of the lockdown period and built a stunning brand new swimming pool complex to now include an indoor pool, a spa area and toboggans.
For the more sports-mad travellers amongst you, head to the nearby seaside resort of Anglet where you will be spoilt for choice with its 11 sandy beaches covering 4.5 kilometres and is a renowned surfing spot. There is also a Chiberta golf course, a Thalassotherapy centre, 230 hectares of unspoilt forests to explore, cycle paths and of course long coastal walks.
Wander down the medieval streets of Bayonne and immerse yourself in the historic architecture. Don’t forget to check out St. Mary’s Cathedral in Old Bayonne, with its beautiful Gothic cloister and galleries that house tombs and gravestones. Or take a stroll through the stunning Japanese styled botanical gardens, located not far from Château-Vieux.

(E30) Roquetas de Mar, Andalucia, Spain
The Roquetas de Mar campsite is situated on the beautiful Costa de Almeria, a sun-trapped spot in southern Spain.
The site itself boasts an array of facilities including a popular restaurant which serves up a traditional locally sourced menu, a cafe with a pool table, a bar and a convenience store. Maps and local information are available from reception including cycling routes, to help you explore the nearby attractions including National Parks Sierra Nevada and Cabo de Gata.
Over the winter months the campsite has invested in the improvement of their pool area, which included an extension of the sunbathing space. Perfect to soak up the rays!
Just 15 minutes by car is the provincial capital Almeria, a renowned fishing town famed for its fishing traditions, its annual festivals and its gourmet cuisine, as well as being a popular coastal resort town. It has an impressive Moorish fortress overlooking the city and its beautiful 16th century Cathedral. With the Mediterranean coast on the doorstep, you’ll be spoilt for choice with fresh fish, seafood and tapas on offer. And don’t forget to try out the superb Almerian pastries, especially the superb ‘glaseado de meringue’ (glazed meringues), a firm favourite of locals and tourists alike!
Just 1km from the campsite is the town of Aquadulce with its tranquil beaches, charming promenade and lively marina with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Appreciate the beauty of nature with a trip to the local nature reserve of Puntas Entinas-Sabinar, home to an abundance of wildlife including flamingos and herons, protected in their wetland habitat.
