Changes to recycling regulations in Wales and recycling update

16/07/2024

Since April 6, 2024, the Welsh government has changed its laws regarding recycling for all businesses, charities, and public sector organisations. These changes are to improve the quality and quantity of recycling from businesses. They are seen as an important step towards reaching zero waste, reducing carbon emissions, and tackling the climate emergency. Therefore, we are legally required to have seven different types of recycling bins on our Welsh sites, which we will require you to use. If you visit any of our sites located in Wales, please watch for signs around our bin points. We will have separate bins for food & compostable disposables, plastic, tins & cans, paper, cardboard, glass, and non-recyclables. Please help the Club by sorting your recycling into the correct bins. If you’re unsure of anything, be sure to ask our on-site team, who will be happy to help.

In England and Scotland, our processes will remain the same at our bin points, but please support us by recycling as much as possible and remember to take away large items as these are expensive and challenging for us to dispose of. In 2023, over 95% of waste generated on our sites was diverted from landfill. In 2024, we partnered with Biffa for all of our locations for waste disposal and are working with them to keep our waste-to-landfill rates at a minimum and ensure as much as possible is recycled.
