Dometic started in 1919, when two young Swedish engineers, Baltzar von Platen and Carl Munters, created a cooling cabinet with no compressor, moving parts or ice and therefore, the world’s first refrigerator was born.  In 1923 Artic purchased the manufacturing rights and in 1925, Electrolux purchased Artic.

At the end of the 1960s, Electrolux created a sub-division for the touring market by the name of Dometic.  In 2001, Dometic separated from Electrolux and became its own standalone company.  Dometic purchased Kampa in 2018 to strengthen its position within the world of touring.

Today, Dometic has 23 manufacturing and assembly sites in 11 different countries with their products being sold in more than 100 countries.
