With its incredible mountains, waterfalls, castles and lochs, the Scottish Highlands are definitely worth the drive. Inverness, the area's largest city, is home to stunning architecture, markets and art galleries.

  • If you fancy some thrilling outdoor fun you can visit Cairngorm Mountain, about an hour's drive from the site. With mountain biking trails, mountain carting and a tubing park. 
  • For a day out further afield, visit the stunning Dunrobin Castle. Watch the falconry display then tour the museum and gardens. Approximately 1.5hrs drive from the site, you could stop to explore the Black Isle on your way. 
  • The atmospheric Culloden Battlefield and museum is a must for those interested in Scottish history.

Within walking distance to the town itself with shops and restaurants, you can also walk to nearby Balmashanner Hill or visit Restenneth Priory. 

  • Visit Airlie Monument which is a beautiful walk, and on the way you'll see Scott Wilson Memorial. Soak up the history and enjoy the stunning scenery.
  • Take a trip, about a 30 minute drive, to Dundee. Explore all the city has to offer including spotting the local wildlife on a sea safari with Salt Dog Marine.
  • Journey through the 650-year history of Glamis Castle.  Explore the walled gardens, the Macbeth Trail and discover all the famous faces links to the castle.

Close to the lovely town of Banchory which has lots to offer. Visit Crathes Castle, enjoy a walk to Scolty Hill where you can get breathtaking views or explore the Deeside Way by foot or bike.

  • On top of a 160 foot rock looking out at the North Sea on three sides, the dramatic and haunting Dunnottar Castle is definitely worth a visit. 
  • About 50 minutes' drive from the site you'll find Balmoral - explore the beautiful grounds, gardens and exhibitions. Enjoy afternoon tea or a tour of some of the stunning rooms within the castle.
  • If you are looking for some adrenaline-filled fun head to Battle Grounds Adventure Activities where they have plenty on offer including paintballing, bobble football, archery and Airsoft.
