Why stay here ...

Located in the pretty hillside town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in the Rheingau region, this family-run site provides a relaxing stay with emphasis on peace and quiet. With excellently maintained facilities and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

The site staff work hard to accommodate guests’ needs and although limited English is spoken, you’ll find them polite and willing to help.

The campsite is a short walk from the town, which is famed for its winemaking and surrounded by castles, ruins and museums. You can take a trip on the cable car to view the stunning scenery of the vineyards and the Rhine river. Those with a reason to celebrate should try the Schloss hotel restaurant on the Drosselgasser, which offers excellent food.

Take the train from Rudesheim to Koblenz which has to be one of the Worlds’ best train journeys, the ticket price is an absolute bargain, as you will lose count of the castles which look down majestically upon the train, as you pass by alongside the river.

There is no pool on site, but the municipal pool is 200m away and open in high season.

Fabulous Site

Rüdesheim am Rhein
We stayed on this site for 2 nights. Our pitch was by the waters edge at the end of the site. Very clean toilets and showers. Lovely short walk past river cruise boats into town. Short walk/cycle to supermarkets.

Wonderful if you get the right pitch

Rüdesheim am Rhein
We have been very lucky to have been able to choose a spacious caravan pitch right by the river with lovely views of ducks and cruise ships passing by. We paid an extra 4 euros a night for on pitch water and drainage. Why does the Club not advertise these and allow you to book them? We would have been less delighted if we’d been pitched 4 or 5 rows back in an orderly but undefined grid of mainly motorhome pitches. This might explain the variable reviews that this site gets. Those are ok for a stopover as are the dedicated motorhome pitches by the entrance. Information on access from either the Club or the site website is dangerously lacking. Satnav will try and take you under a railway bridge where the road is so steep you’ll probably ground a caravan. You need to go under the next bridge and approach from the east along a very narrow lane with passing places. Follow signs for Wasserschutz Polizei, take a deep breath then turn right along Kastenienallee. Also not explicit is that the vehicle ferry from Bingen is quite big enough for caravans. No opening times for anything on either website. Reception closes from 11am until 1:15pm so avoid queuing at the entrance. Everything else is great. Beautiful clean washrooms, friendly family owners. Unfortunately the recent floods have closed the next door swimming pool. We are watching the clean up progressing as the weather warms up! Easy walk into town along the river. Very popular with cruise ships. Both day trip operators run the same choice of river trips. Lidl and Aldi 5 minutes away but booze choice poor in both. Splash out and buy a nice Riesling from the campsite kiosk for only 8 euros. Nearby castles are up steep hills from the riverside and mainly 19th century reconstructions. We drove an hour downriver to visit the amazing Marksburg

Wonderful campsite!

Rüdesheim am Rhein
Booked through CMHC and smooth check in and set up on pitch. Immaculate facilities and what a location! By the side of the Rhine and fascinating watching the comings and goings of the river cruisers. Birdlife interesting with cormorants and Egyptian geese with their chicks on the bank. 15 minute walk to town with a lovely, reasonably priced outside bar on the way. Took the boat/chair lift/walk/cable car Ring Tour with castle visit (€22pp) and it was excellent-helped the weather was good! Supermarkets in walking distance of site. Only stayed 2 nights-wish we'd had longer.

Zero information

Rüdesheim am Rhein
On arrival at Rudesheim, we were expected having reserved in advance but given zero information about the site, its facilities or anything in the area. So we had to explore and find the motor home service point, as well as the showers. One toilet block has no showers at all, only toilets and wash basins, so the only showers are in the block near the entrance. Kept pretty clean but could be a bit overwhelmed if the site was full and quite a long hike from the end of the site where we were - near the ruins of the Hindenburg Bridge. We never used the 'kiosk' - we weren't given any information about it, otherwise we might have done. There's actually a gate which leads directly from this area onto the path by the river, which we found half way through the week. Again, no information. It would help if there was a gate at the Hindenburg Bridge end of the site - from our pitch it took 10 minutes to walk to the main gate and then back up the lane to arrive on the other side of the fence from where we started. As others have commented, you have to get a member of staff to plug you in an unplug you from the electricity supply, which wasn't a problem on arrival or when leaving. No idea whether site staff speak English or not - I spoke to them in German so it wasn't a problem. The pitches are not marked in any way and some units looked as if they were very close to others. Aldi, Lidl, Pennymarkt and other stores are very close to the site but you have to find them yourself, of course. Rudesheim is very touristy but there are some fun things to do - the ring tour for 20 Euros is great. You take the cable car up to the Niederwalddenkmal (worth the cable car alone for the views), walk 3km through the woods, then take the chairlift down to Assmannshausen and return to Rudesheim by river boat. Takes half a day easily. A visit to St Hildegard's Abbey is also well worth it - we took the cable car up the hill, walked along the ridge to the abbey and then walked back down into the town. The open air swimming pool next to the site was great but costs 5 euro entry. Got badly bitten by midges at night - take precautions if the little critters like you! We stayed a full week but four nights would have been enough.

Excellent disabled shower and toilet

Rüdesheim am Rhein
We stayed for 3 nights in September 2022. As we had prepaid, there was only the local tourist tax to pay on arrival. Reception staff spoke good English. We had taken a small pitch which was not clearly defined but was adequate for our camper. A key is needed for the disabled facilities for which a refundable deposit is required. The facilities were easily accessed, spacious, modern and spotless. My only complaint was a broken chair which posed an accident risk but was not removed \ fixed despite being reported on our first day. As other reviews have highlighted the site is ideally placed for visiting the town and accessing Rhine cruises; Niederwald Monument etc. A four hour cruise to Sankt Goar (Loreley) was only €15 each for over 60s. There is plenty to do and see in the local area for a couple of week’s holiday if not touring. The WiFi is only a hotspot at reception and not very reliable even there. I took the A61 down from the Dutch border to Bingen then crossed on the Bingen \ Rüdesheim ferry (€8.50 for our small camper.) We would definitely use the site again.
