Why stay here ...

Lively in high season, L’Hippocampe is a friendly, family-run site situated by the side of a river in a beautiful area of Provence. Generous pitches are mostly separated by bushes, and several overlook the river. The site is ideal for active families, with daily entertainment including aerobics, competitions, games and shows, as well as a large pool complex with slides and flumes for those who prefer to entertain themselves.

Within walking disctance of Volonne and just 8 miles from Sisteron, the area also provides a lot for the active: rafting, hiking, canoeing and more can all be tried close by. The site staff will be happy to book excursions for guests, such as flights over the Gorges du Verdon and pony trekking. Those looking for a more sedate excursion can visit Dignes-les-Baines and bathe in its thermal spa waters.

OK before or after high season

Reasonably easy to find just south of Sisteron. We did not pre book this site but were given a very friendly welcome to what was a potentially busy site that was cramped in some areas, whilst more open in others. Most pitches were separated by hedges but the planting regimes... Show more

Great site and location

We stayed here for 4 nights between 1st and 5th of August. When we first arrived reception was heaving and the girl who was suppose to escort us to our pitch got confused and took the wrong family. Eventually things were sorted. The pitch was more or less as far... Show more

Good stop whilst on tour

This is a very large site. Lots of gites, camping g, motorbikes and caravans. The best pitches by far are river view special pitches with water 10amps and drainage. These pitches are large and fairy flat. So.e have some shade. If it's hot like whilst we were there in early... Show more

A Very Nice Site (In September)

We stayed here for seven nights in late September. The site was very quiet, the shop, restaurant and onsite activities were all closed, this didn`t bother us in fact I think the site may be too noisy and busy for us in July/August. We were given a large pitch directly... Show more

Lots to do

We arrived the last week in August, and the site was fairly busy, in a typical French campsite style. There are a lot of large pitches, and those by the river have excellent views. The end of the camp with the pools and activities area is fairly noisy, so a... Show more

August 2015

This was not a bad site, but in reality, there are so much better out there. The pools are excellent, but other than that I think it's fair to say that it wasn't my sort of place.  Music would drone over the camp site some nights until 3am which was... Show more
