Spoiled by poor access and tight pitches

Le Point du Jour
A very busy site even in June. The pitches are quite small which means that many cars are parked on the roadside across the front of the pitch which restricts the access. Some pitches are very difficult to access!! I would advise against using this site with a touring caravan unless you have a mover which is in good working condition! The site is clean and the toilets are modern and kept in spotless condition. The site access is decidedly tricky with only one barrier for both entrance and exit! When we arrived, in the short space of time it took to register, we had a camper van behind and another trailer caravan unit which was almost blocking the road! It appears that they have extended the arrival area to incorporate a bar/restaurant which takes up the space which could be used for better access -(in any case this was closed, in late June despite the site appearing to be virtually full and the fact that the European Cup was in full progress)! The whole layout appears very confused and poorly thought out it gives the feeling that too many pitches have been crammed in. The site provides easy access to a large beach at the bottom of the site and there are villages and towns nearby for Restaurants and all essentials. The approach from Ouistreham is quite tricky with lots of traffic calming measures/speed humps along the way. The main attraction for British visitors is no doubt the proximity to the ferry port but We would not use the site again unless we were specifically visiting the area.

Lovely beach and town

Le Point du Jour
We have just returned from a short stay at this site. The facilities were good, the town is good for a short walk and the beach is great for a longer walk. However I have to agree with previous reviewers on the pitches. They are very small even for a motorhome and there is so little room to manoeuvre because of the closeness of adjoining pitches and the narrow road. We would not stay at this site again but choose another nearby.

Disappointed on pitch allocation

Le Point du Jour
This site, in places, is very tight to manoeuvre round. We have a Bailey 464 (so quite small) but still found getting to the pitch we were allocated difficult as site roads are narrow. When we got to the pitch someone else was there. We went back to reception and were told 'They must have forgotten they were due to go home today.' We were also told they had no spare pitches! We were not the only people to find someone else on a pitch we were allocated that day. Eventually we were given another pitch and told we'd find it better for us. That definitely wasn't the case it was very small and on a sandy incline. Even with a motor mover we needed help to get onto the pitch as one wheel was just digging further and further into the sand. We only had room in the width of the pitch for our caravan and awning. We couldn't walk round the front of the awning as it was very near the hedge. The depth of the pitch was so short it could just about accommodate the length of the caravan + the width of our car. We were so disappointed in the pitch that I bothered to work out it was just under 60 sq m - nowhere near the 100 sq m advertised by the Caravan Club. We'd booked for 4 nights and when we left the people on the original pitch had still 'forgotten to go home'. We think that on noticing we have a small van they thought we could be put on a very small pitch. Also unfortunately for us we were next to static caravans, not among other tourers, the occupants of one of them decided to have a party until gone midnight one night. We appreciate that's a one-off, and if we'd been enjoying our pitch we probably wouldn't have remembered it, but that tainted our stay too. The plus side of this site is the direct access to a lovely sandy beach, with fabulous sunsets. Unfortunately they didn't compensate enough for an awful pitch. A great shame and disappointing end to our holiday when we'd already stayed on 2 other sites recommended by the Club (Le Domaine du Logis and De Trologot) which were both lovely.

Nice stopover site

Le Point du Jour
We used this site on arriving in Caen. Found it a little difficult to find in the dark but the owners were wonderful directing us by phone and even waiting at the gate to help us when we arrived which was almost 10.30 p.m. Shower blocks were very clean and although our stay was short we were very happy with everything.

Overpriced.

Le Point du Jour
Needing a one night stay before catching the early morning ferry from Caen, we felt that the £50 per night charge was extortionate. Although on the beach, there is very little space, it's noisy and overcrowded. When we arrived at our pitch we had to evict a group of young French adults whose electricity cable didn't stretch to their pitch so they'd been using ours. Facilities seem average, but to have to pay for wifi after being fleeced for a small plot of sandcovered grass is quite simply robbery. Water pressure was low,and again only one tap shared between many. Very very noisy, from the on site entertainment and people returning at all hours. The town is a 15-20 minute walk, excellent restaurants serving beautifully cooked food. I wouldn't return to this site, there are cheaper, quieter and better value places.
