Why stay here ...

Located between Bayeux and Caen and close proximity to Arromanches (Mulberry Harbour),  this charming site is an ideal base from which to explore Normandy. Relaxing in low season, it has a rural feel, and even though it gets busier in high season, the calm ambiance is largely retained.

The site has a heated pool and provides family entertainment during the summer. There is also a well-stocked shop which provides all the essentials for a shorter stay.

The D-Day beaches are the primary draw to the area, the closest of which are Juno and Gold Beaches. Bayeux is a short drive and home to an imposing cathedral, WWII memorial museum and, of course, the famous tapestry. Visitors can also enjoy the region’s Calvados on the Route du Cidre.

Perfect for short drives to Caen ferry port and for D-Day memorial/museums

Le Château de Martragny
The site is clean and tidy, set in the beautiful grounds of the Chateau. The quiet surrounding countryside lanes were ideal for exploring on our bikes. We stayed during June '24 and after only 2 days we had a water pump failure but with great help of our receptionist, we had a new pump delivered to the site in 3 days. Only advice I will give is that some of the pitches are quite small, so make sure you have a walk around/look at the available pitches, rather than accept the pitch pre-booked through the club.

A beautiful site

Le Château de Martragny
We stayed here in July 23. This was second time we have visited (first in 2019). The site is lovely, with good sizes pitches in the 'orchard' were we stayed both times. The welcome at reception was good. EHU is close by and fresh water and toilet disposal were nearby. The showers close to the orchard were adequate and had not been recently updated (unlike others on site). There is an 'open' feel to the site with a dramatic access avenue. There is a small shop with fresh bread etc (no need to pre-order). Nearest large shops are at Bayeux. The site is in a quiet location with good access to Bayeux, Caen, the WW2 beaches etc. We cycled around locally and the roads were quite except around Bayeux. We would certainly visit this site again.

What a fantastic site

Le Château de Martragny
This has to be our favourite site of our month long trip. Stunning drive up to the chateau, with the most friendly and helpful staff. Lots of info in reception, well stocked shopped. Allocated pitch 62, large grassed pitch , no issues with drainage. water and hook up easy to access. Quiet whilst we were there 27 june 23 - 3 nights. beautiful clean pool area and gorgeous grounds. Immaculate sanitary facilities. Restaurant on site, recommend booking. Plenty of cycle routes, 30 minutes into Bayeaux. Lovely city great to explore, recommend the tapestry. cycled to Arromanches to see the Mulberry harbour and wandered through picturesque villages. Will definitely return, now planning to get ferry to Caen as it is a short drive and will stay here again for a few days.

Fantastic site in Beautiful Setting

Le Château de Martragny
We have a lovely 6 days at this site. Absolutely beautiful surroundings in the ground of an elegant chateau, with reception and shop open 9-7pm (no closed for lunch!), everything well kept and maintained. Fresh croissants and baguettes in the morning. The all grass pitches were large and spacious and plenty of choice when we visit (although this might not be the case high season, we visited in June). Well presented swimming pool overlooking the chateau with quality seating around it. Restaurant with decent food and wine in pleasant surroundings. Location great for exploring Bayeaux and D Day history, and 90 mins to Mont Saint Michel for the more adventurous. Some people used it as a ferry stop as no overnight site closure so can set off to Caen for early crossing but highly recommend longer stay to enjoy the site and the area. Access to site on good D road so no access issues.

Late Aug 2019 visit

Le Château de Martragny
Large easy access pitches, neighbours offered to help manoeuvre van into best position as not so strictly regulated as many UK sites. Very friendly and helpful staff on arrival and I quote “If you don’t like your pitch, just come and tell us and you can have another". Good English spoken if it helps you. Very well kept site and well maintained. Very modern shower and toilets and mixed male and female which is rather common in France Fresh water near, I never did find the grey waste area. Swimming pool was ok although we didn’t use it. The pond bit was a bit sad with dead water and dead fish. Maybe there was some issue. Restaurant food and prices were ok. The waitress worked very hard while the lazy barman looked on and chatted instead of helping her Shop was a bit pricy but convenient for breakfast things or when you arrive. Good playground for kids Wifi free but slow same as every other French site we have experienced. Mostly brits and Dutch during our visit, not many french. Eu 3 pin plug electric reversed polarity. Very good base for Bayeux and Normandy battlefield tour. We were there for the last few days that it was open at the end of August We would certainly stay again
