Why stay here ...

A touring-only site situated on the banks of the River Cher, Le Moulin Fort is a relaxing place to stay with an emphasis on wellbeing. It’s suited to couples and families with older children looking for a peaceful stay, and many visitors return time and again due to its excellent location, friendly atmosphere and hard-working staff.

The level pitches are of a good size and shaded by trees and shrubs, while facilities are well kept and include a bar and restaurant, pool and mini-golf. Twin-axle caravans and large motorhomes will find access to the pitches straightforward.

The site is a short walk from the Château de Chenonceau, once owned by Catherine de Medici and famous for its fairy tale design. The area is excellent for walking, cycling and kayaking, and you can also take a hot air balloon trip from Amboise or a boat trip from opposite the site and float under the Chenonceau arches.

Le Moulin Fort
Terrific, relaxed site on the river. Easy to find and access. Level, shaded pitches. Plenty of facilities including for kids. A lovely stroll to Chenonceau and lots to see a short drive away. Some may say rail noise or older toilet blocks bother them but I barely noticed either. Would recommend but a bit of sun would have been nice.

Lovely relaxed site

Le Moulin Fort
We have stayed at this site many times over the years and the new French owners have invested in the facilities, turning the once dingy bar into an excellent restaurant where non-campers are also welcome. The toilets have also been upgraded somewhat, plenty hot water and individual toilet roll holders! A very relaxed site with spacious pitches, often at odd angles which makes for an interesting layout. The site borders the River Cher where you can take a boat up through the archways of the beautiful Chenonceau Castle. There is also a walk along the river to view the castle from the bank. It is near to the vineyards and other chateaux of the Loire including the magnificent Amboise, well worth a visit.

Peaceful short break.

Le Moulin Fort
We used this site as a two night stop over on our return from the Dordogne. We had a warm welcome and bread order taken for the next day. Pitches are large arranged in a series of ‘cul de sacs’ which we liked. There are a number of riverside pitches with lovely views. I’m not sure if the toilets have been upgraded since previous reviews, but we found them to be excellent. Clean, plentiful, seats on toilets and paper in cubicles. The showers were hot, although maybe a little lacking in power. The restaurant looked great, but unfortunately was booked up. Next time we’ll book in advance. Lovely shady riverside walks from the site which our dog appreciated. Our only issue was that the electric kept tripping. We weren’t sure if that was a site wide issue or just our electric post.

Probably a good location, below average facilities

Le Moulin Fort
We only stayed 1 night and it rained pretty much all the time. The location appears good for visiting the Loire valley, but perhaps not a lot to come ‘home’ to. Toilet blocks and showers grubby and slippery and not a lot of care seems to be given which means us campers probably don’t clean our bit either so it leads to a general grubby feel. Motorhome service point and chemical toilet could do with being a bit further away from some pitches as the traffic tends to build up and a few odd smells we can all do without. Having said that pitches are flat and location a real positive, just recognise a bit of compromise needed when it comes to showering etc.

Delightful site

Le Moulin Fort
Lovely site in a great location. The pitches are spacious, albeit oddly-shaped in places. The staff are friendly and helpful. Fresh bread can be ordered daily. The on-site restaurant is excellent, although booking is a must as it is also popular with locals and can get really busy. Perfect base for exploring the Cher and Loire valleys. Amboise is a particular gem of a destination. The only slight downside is the toilet blocks which are a bit rudimentary. Toilet paper has to be collected from a dispenser on the way in and there is no soap for hand washing. There is, however, plenty of hot water.
