Andalucía: Santander to Marbella route

Home of Flamenco, tapas and exquisite Moorish cities such as Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba and Cádiz, Andalucía presents the archetypal face of Spain. Whether you head for the peaceful orange groves and mountains of its interior or the sun kissed coastline, you’ll have ample opportunity to see, smell, hear and taste the essence of this sublime and fabulously charismatic country.

To help with your planning, we have put together two suggested road trips from Santander to Marbella. The first is a leisurely route for those who have more time to explore and the second is a quicker, more direct route for those who prefer to get there right away.

  • El Astral is an open all year campsite that sits adjacent to the Suero River and is a great stopover option for those on their way to Portugal or the Costa Blanca. 
  • Offering plenty of green spaces, the campsites facilities include swimming pools, mulit-sports courts, mini-golf and tennis. There is also an on-site grill restaurant serving traditional Castillian recipes.
  • Explore Spanish history including the Alhambra of Castille in the pretty town of Tordesilas, just 10 minutes walk away from the campsite.

  • Head to the city of Valdepeñas, famous for its wine and is the centre of a grape-growing district. 
  • Explore the ancient city of Ciudad Real which is steeped in history.

  • The campsite is just a short stroll to the beach and marina, and there is a frequent bus service to Marbella and Fuengirola.
