Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites get special visit from Welsh Government in celebration of Wales Tourism Week
23/05/2023
Visitors holidaying in Wales spend over £6 billion a year and tourism employs nearly 10 per cent of the Welsh workforce. With over 14 Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites across the country, the Club helps to aid tourism and encourage more visitors to get out in the great outdoors. This week staff at three Club Campsites met with Members of the Senedd to celebrate Wales Tourism Week.
Wales Tourism Week, which ran from Monday 15 until Sunday 21 May, offers tourism sites across Wales the opportunity to raise awareness of the sector and the quality on offer to both UK and international tourists. Championing its members to get more choices and more value from the great outdoors, the Caravan and Motorhome Club is a co-sponsor.
Ken Skates, MS for Clwyd South, visited Lady Margaret’s Park Campsite in Wrexham, which re-opened in December 22 following extensive refurbishment works to see the transformation and find out how tourism to the campsite had been proving popular. The wooded parkland campsite offers a range of pitches located in an intimate tree-shaded glade and is adjacent to the grounds of Chirk Castle in the heart of Marcher country. Tourers can enjoy plenty of walks around the area and plenty of sightseeing nearby.
Ken Skates, MS, comments: “It was great to visit Lady Margaret’s Park Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite in my constituency of Clwyd South to celebrate Wales Tourism Week 2023. It is easy to see why it is a popular destination for tourers. I am sure that campsite visitors across the year will also bring a welcome boost to the local visitor economy.”
Other visits included Paul Davies MS for Preseli Pembrokeshire who visited St David’s Lleithyr Meadow Club Campsite in St David’s and Samuel Kurtz, MS for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire who was shown around Freshwater East Club Campsite in Pembrokeshire.
The Club also co-sponsored an evening reception at the Senedd, alongside Visit Wales and the Wales Tourism Alliance, which offered visitors the chance to meet industry members and politicians to discuss the value of the tourism industry to Wales GDP and critical issues affecting tourism in the country. Caravan and Motorhome Club Chairman, Grenville Chamberlain OBE gave a speech to highlight the impending tourism levy and urged the Welsh Government to continue working with the various tourism organisations to ensure that it will be fair to all. He comments: “Wales is an extremely popular destination for our members and we want to make sure that it remains accessible.”
