Training courses to help tourers get more from the great outdoors
12/01/2023
With 2023, bringing a focus of exploring further while spending less, the Caravan and Motorhome Club launches its 2023 driving training courses to help tourers make the most of the great outdoors. Course attendees will be able to gain confidence and perfect their manoeuvring skills with expert trainers.
Whether you are new to caravanning, motorhoming and campervanning, or a seasoned tourer who just needs a refresher, the Club makes sure you feel comfortable and safe in your vehicle before you head out on your holiday adventure. The Club has over 40 years of experience running these courses. Operating at 16 locations across the UK, each course is led by friendly, expert trainers with first-hand experience, who are members and well-seasoned tourers themselves. Courses are open to both Club members and non-members.
The training courses are split into; Practical Caravanning; Caravan Manoeuvring; and Motorhome Manoeuvring. The Caravan and Motorhome manoeuvring courses both take less than seven hours, whilst the Practical Caravan Manoeuvring course, for people who are completely new to caravanning, is completed within 10 hours, split over 1.5 days.
Sessions include:
- Manoeuvring advice
- Hitching and towing safely
- Straightforward safety checks
- Understanding the laws that affect caravanning and motorhoming
- Practice in manoeuvring an outfit forwards and backwards
- Understanding loading and how it affects towing
The courses are run at centres in Askham Bryan, Worcester, Winchester, Dumfries, Plumpton, Leyburn, Llanelli, Wrexham, Cheshire and Macclesfield. The Club is also launching six new locations in 2023 to help more people make the most of the great outdoors, with course openings in Edgmond, South Ockendon, York, Boston, Lancaster and Sheffield for the first time.
The courses are priced as follows:

What’s more, participants will receive the Club’s Essential Guide to Touring for free, which is filled with useful information to get you started on touring and normally costs £16.00.
Harvey Alexander, Director of Marketing and Membership Services at the Caravan and Motorhome Club said, “We are delighted to help new and old tourers alike to journey safely while making the most of the great outdoors through our driving training courses in 2023. Touring holidays are more popular than ever and people are taking to the open road as they look to holiday for less. By launching a variety of new locations this year this provides course participants with flexibility on where to learn or refresh their skills before setting off on their touring adventures in the UK and Europe.”
