The Caravan and Motorhome Club and Alan Rogers Travel Group announce winners of the Best European Campsites 2024

Holidaymakers looking to book an award-winning campsite in Europe this summer should check out the luxurious spa facilities at Grubhof in Austria, the Overall Winner of the Caravan and Motorhome Club Award and Azur Camping, the Overall Winner of the Alan Rogers Travel Service Award.
The awards were announced at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, held at the NEC, on Wednesday 19 February. The winning campsites were recognised for their high quality, incredible facilities, and commitment to providing excellent services.
The Club and Alan Rogers’ campsite teams compiled a shortlist with other experts from the camping and caravanning industry. The judges also considered feedback from members and customers over the past year, including consistency of the campsite's popularity and comments from the Alan Rogers campsite assessors.
Chris Newey, Group Head of Travel Services for the Caravan and Motorhome Club, said: “These awards highlight the fantastic services offered by our European campsite partners to provide our members and non-members with an unforgettable campsite experience.”
This year, the awards had 11 categories, including an overall winner for the Caravan and Motorhome Club and an overall winner for Alan Rogers. The categories highlighted themes essential to holidaymakers, recognising campsites for the ideal family holiday, with dog-friendly facilities, and having sustainability and environmental awareness.
The winner and runner up campsites for the following categories:
Caravan and Motorhome Club Overall Award Winner: Grubhof in Austria is surrounded by stunning alpine views with superb facilities and large well-spaced pitches. The campsite is perfect for winter sports as well as hiking, cycling or just relaxing in the summer. After a day of exploring, members can enjoy the spa facilities and the welcoming on-site bar and restaurant. The summer pass entitles members to enjoy a free cable car ride and access to the local outdoor pool as well as discounts to local attractions.
Alan Rogers Travel Service Award Winner: Azur Camping has 5 campsites in southern Germany offering unique accommodation styles, green pitches and tent sites for families and couples. One of Azur Camping’s campsites is situated close to the stunning historical town of Wertheim. Additionally, guests can enjoy the lovely municipal swimming pool which is free for campsite guests. Another one of Azur Camping’s campsites is nestled on the northern banks of a lake close to the centre of Ingolstadt, an ideal campsite to be used as a stopover for those journeying to Italy and Croatia.
The Exceptional Services and Facilities Award
Winner: Caravaning Oyambre in Spain is located on the north coast near Santander. This popular campsite provides excellent facilities for everyone, including indoor and outdoor pools and sunbathing area, a playground, a restaurant, a well-stocked shop and a beautiful beach 15-minutes’ walk away from the campsite. The spectacular Picos de Europa mountains are easily reached from the campsite and there are lots of good walking trails to appreciate the scenery.
Runner up: Costa do Vizir in Portugal is located on the Alentejo coast, close to the pristine Praia Grande beach. In this extremely well kept campsite, tourers will enjoy a peaceful setting surrounded by flowers and shrubs. There is also an exceptional fine dining restaurant on-site and another of the campsite’s bar and restaurants is located on the beach, ideal for watching the sunset.
The Most Attractive Campsite Award
Winner: Le Capeyrou in France is a beautifully located campsite set at the foot of the majestic medieval Beynac castle and bordered by the magnificent Dordogne river. The campsite has large grassy pitches and the on-site facilities include a restaurant, bar and pool. Alternatively, guests can stroll into Beynac, known for being one of the most beautiful villages in France, where they can eat out in one of the many riverside restaurants and watch the canoes and boats drift by.
Runner up: Le Château de Lez-Eaux in France. Over the years, our members have consistently rated this enchanting Normandy site highly for its stunning natural environment, immaculately kept grounds and 5 star facilities guaranteed to delight the entire family.
The Most Accessible Award
Winner: Le Château de l'Epervière in France sits in the heart of the Burgundy wine country in the grounds of a 16th century château. Its fantastic, spacious, and all-accessible state of the art facilities, including the Chateau’s own gourmet restaurant ensure a delightful stay to guests of all ages and abilities.
Runner up: A La Rencontre du Soleil in France is a friendly, family run site located at the edge of the vast Parc des Ecrins National Park, just less than an hour from Grenoble. As well as offering a refreshing environment, the campsite prides itself in ensuring that its spacious, accessible and comfortable facilities can be enjoyed by all. All 57 pitches of this delightful and welcoming site offer superb Alpine views.
The Progress & Innovation Award
Winner: River Valley Caravan Park is situated in beautiful County Wicklow. The campsite has a strong focus on families during high season and offers a wide range of fun activities including an off road safari and electric go-karts. The site also offers a separate Adult area for peace and quiet. There is also a micro-brewery and pub at the entrance to the site which also serves excellent food. The site is constantly investing in new activities and facilities for guests to enjoy Wicklow National Park is located close by and is perfect for active hill walks or birdwatching as the campsite faces beautiful mountainous scenery. Dublin is also easily reachable by car or public transport.
Runner up: Huttopia campsites are developed in beautiful natural environments, established in a way that does not harm the surroundings and that enhances the nature and local culture. Each has a light-weight easily dismountable infrastructure ‘centre de vie’ which nestles in harmoniously with the landscape. Families, often city dwellers, who are looking to stay in simple and direct contact with nature are welcomed, to relax and discover the region together in an environmentally-friendly manner. Children's activities are based around nature, honey is produced on some sites, guests are encouraged to visit the local environment, support local businesses, restaurants and really engage with what the area has to offer.
The Welcome Award
Winner: Le Moulin de Bel Air in France is a charming family owned-and-run site, built around an 18th century mill and offering superb Lot river valley views. It is praised by our members for the exceptionally warm and personalised welcome they receive from its passionate, knowledgeable and hard working owners.
Runner up: Cabopino in Spain is a popular all-year round campsite close to the gorgeous destination of Marbella. The campsite has a large range of great facilities for everyone and excellent customer services that makes every guest feel special from the moment they arrive. The lovely beach and marina are a short walk away.
The Small/Charming Campsite Award
Winner: La Grappe Fleurie in France is a charming quality campsite with its own spa located close to a picturesque village that overlooks the well-known vineyards of Beaujolais. La Grappe Fleurie is ideal for wine lovers who wish to discover the local culture and nature enthusiasts who want to relax in a pretty environment.
Runner up: Ribamar in Spain is located close to the scenic coastline between Valencia and Tarragona. This small and attractive campsite is the perfect place to enjoy an idyllic holiday in the Sierra de Irta National Park. It has a truly relaxing environment, well kept facilities and is within walking distance of beautiful coves and beaches. It is also based in a great location for trekking and mountain biking.
The Dog-Friendly Award
Winner: La Garangeoire in France is nestled in the heart of a 200 acres tree filled park and is perfect for dogs. The campsite contains spacious and grassy pitches and is great for the whole family as there is a comprehensive range of on-site activities which includes an equestrian centre. The campsite’s services are open throughout the season including the restaurant, bar, shop, take-away and the heated pool complex with indoor and outdoor pools and water slides.
Runner up: Haliotis in France is situated on the edge of Pontorson and close to St-Malo. Tourers can enjoy breakfast in the bar near the campsite’s reception or dip in the on-site pool complex. Additionally, there is a mini farm and playground for children. The pitches of this Qualidog labelled site are neatly laid out on grass and separated by hedges - some of them are shaded by trees and others open. There is ample space on site for walks and dog walking.
The Family Award
Winner: Camping Koningshof in The Netherlands is situated in Rijnsburg, an area known for its beautiful flowers. The campsite is ideal for families, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, restaurant and bar, an animation programme for children during the day, a skate area, playground (indoors and outdoors), outdoor fitness and a sports field. With its meadows, bulb fields and greenhouses, Rijnsburg is a beautiful holiday destination.
Runner up: Le Domaine de la Catinière in France is located near the picturesque port of Honfleur and with plenty of activities on offer including a waterpark, indoor and outdoor pools, extensive children’s play area, and a mini farm, this is the perfect family site for an active, fun and relaxing holiday in a beautiful natural environment.
The Sustainability & Environmental Awareness Awards
Winner: Bontempo Village la Yole in St Jean de Monts, France is perfect for a family summer holiday with entertainment, kids activities, a great pool complex, gym and playground. Out of season, tourers can relax and make the most of the local area with eco-friendly cycling trails and walks in the pine forest and along the sandy beach promenade, a perfect sustainable way to explore. Bee hives on-site produce Bontempo honey. The site also has solar panels and solar lighting – all to help promote biodiversity and protect the environment.
Runner up: Kikopark in Spain is open all year around with direct access to a sandy beach. They have taken a big step forward in regards to raising awareness and caring for the environment by installing filtered drinking water fountains in order to reduce the plastic waste caused by single use plastic bottles. Additionally, the campsite’s on-site facilities include a fabulous restaurant overlooking the charming harbour, numerous activities for the family (aqua fitness, yoga, beach volleyball), summer special events, and the campsite’s own beach bar that is open during the summer.
