Sites in Bloom, Sites to Inspire and Sustainability Chairman’s award winners announced
18/10/2022
The Caravan and Motorhome Club has announced the winners of its Sites in Bloom awards and its second-year running Sites to Inspire and Sustainability Chairman’s awards. All three awards recognise the hard work and commitment of the Club’s valued campsite staff.
Sites in Bloom
The Sites in Bloom Awards were created in 2003 by Club Honorary Life Member, the late Alan Payne OBE who sought to recognise the creative agricultural skills of site staff and volunteers by showcasing their floral display on site, to provide visitors with a colourful and warm welcome. There are awards for both single-couple and multi-couple sites and all entries are judged by the Club’s Sites and Accommodation Committee.
2022’s winners are Tewkesbury Abbey in Gloucestershire and Borrowdale Campsite in Keswick. Tewkesbury Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite scoops the title again – after their win last year – of the ‘multi-couple’ category, while Borrowdale Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite win the ‘single couple’ category.
Nick Lomas, Director General at the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “Every year we receive so many incredible entries for the Sites in Bloom award. I would like to thank everyone who entered and who worked so hard on their displays, and of course, our passionate site teams who work endlessly to make sure that every Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite is pleasing to the eye. Congratulations to this year’s winners.”
Sites to Inspire
Entering its second year, the Sites to Inspire award was created to celebrate the campsite staff who go above and beyond to make a stay at their site exceptional.
Members and non-members were asked to nominate a campsite using the post-stay survey, which inspired them during their stay or provided a ‘magic moment.’ This could have included creative initiatives that sparked engagement during their stay. The data collated during the survey were split into two categories for large capacity and small capacity site winners.
Large Occupancy Site Winner:
Berwick Seaview Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite in Northumberland is the 2022 winner of the large occupancy site category.
Comments from those who nominated the site included:
“A great little team running this site, who were extremely welcoming and helpful with local information and suggestions to make the most of our time in Berwick.”
“Loved the Bugingham Palace insect hotel and the way ‘wild’ uncut areas were labelled to note the importance of biodiversity.”
Small Occupancy Site Winner:
Exmoor House Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite located in peaceful Somerset is the 2022 winner of the small occupancy title.
Comments from those who nominated the site included:
“As newcomers to motorhoming, Keith immediately offered us help to set up and later in the day came to check that we were ok.”
“The atmosphere was extremely relaxed despite the site being completely full. It is beautifully kept by the excellent wardens.”
Nick Lomas, Director General at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, said: “Having introduced the Sites to Inspire awards last year, we’re delighted to see it entering its second year as this award gives us a chance to hear from our members and guests and see how happy they are with our campsites and staff. I would like to send a special thanks to all those who were nominated for going above and beyond to make sure that our members and visitors enjoy their stay at our sites, and I would like to send my congratulations to the winners for 2022.”
Sustainability Chairman’s Award
Also running for its second consecutive year, the Sustainability Chairman’s Award has been created to celebrate the campsite network’s environmental, social and economic commitments, actions and engagement.
From tree planting and waste reduction projects, growing wild meadows, hosting local food vendors and raising money for local charities there were many great sustainable activities taking place at campsites throughout the year. All 15 entrants were judged against the criteria by the Club Chairman, Grenville Chamberlain OBE, who personally assessed each application and made the final decision on the winner.
For the second year in a row, Cirencester Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite beat off stiff competition to win the award, showing great dedication to sustainability by taking action to reduce waste, upcycling unwanted or waste objects and working with local charities. With over 70 images to demonstrate their sustainable and social actions, the entry was very well deserved.
Grenville Chamberlain OBE, Chairman of the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “I am honoured to see this award entering its second year, which demonstrates the Club’s commitment to sustainability, and to charitable initiatives. We had 15 really wonderful entries this year, with Cirencester Park winning for its continued efforts to aid its local environment and biodiversity.”
