British. Open Golf Championships visitor

This story happened on: 27/07/2014

As part of both my husbsnd's 50th and son's 17th birthdays this year I bought some day visitor tickets for the final day of the British Open a golf Championships at Royal, Liverpool Golf. Course But finding accommodation became a problem.  All hotels, travel lodges and B&Bs within 30 miles were fully booked well in advance and those within about the next 50 miles had few spaces and where they did we're charging excession rates due to the demand caused by hosting the top golf players over 4 days plus media and up to 40,000 spectators per day. We therefore decided to make the 700 mile round trip with the caravan, having never travelled further than about 100 miles from home until now. We left late on evening and broke the journey in a night halt area on the M5 arriving at Beech Farm CL site Chester by midday on the following day. The site was about a 45 minutes from the golf course and convenient for Liverpool as well so we added on a tour of the anfield football ground. my sons facebook page is now full of photos of him in the Liverpool grounds and he was even caught on camera by the BBC during the golf coverage. The journey back was not so good as we had a few problems with the brakes of the car but managed to limp home with lots of stops and had the comfort of Mayday rescue if we needed it.  It is great that there are so many CLs around in all parts of the country and that there are no fluctuations in pricing based on supply and demand in the same way as other parts of the holiday industry. Well done the Caravan Club. long may this continue.

Glad to hear you had a great trip, despite the problems on the way home. I was glued to the golf on the TV and was delighted with the result being a Northern Ireland girl at heart, would have loved to have been at Hoylake. CLs are a great value way of enjoying the UK countryside,

i hope you have many more great trips in the van
