A lot to learn

This story happened on: 05/06/2014

We have only been caravanners for a year now, starting with older van we soon found out how enjoyable it is, that mini break away from all the stresses life can throw up. So just 8 months after buying the first van we invested in a newer model that fitted our requirements that little bit better. Our first trip away looked like being a disaster, first the gas valve leaked then the electrics would not work. The gas was a faulty unit, strange as it was fresh from the dealers, the electrics a bit more difficult, being reletively new to caravanning we were not warned about the perils of using domestic appliances which consequently blew the trip switch, but not the trip lever on the site socket or our van, no this caused the switch to fail completely. Not sure if we should pack up and return home a last ditch phone call to the caravan dealer, Sussex Caravans, on a bank holiday no less they talked me through possible faults and after a short trip to a local dealers we solved both gas and electric problems and at minimal expense to ourselves, resulting in a lovely weekend away and another lesson learned. Now we keep spares and tools in the van and aim to make the first trip of the season a bit more local so we can test things are working in the real enviroment and that all the equipment we need is packed.
