Challenge 8 - Visit at least one Caravan Club Boosting Biodiversity site and submit a picture to The Club’s drawing competition.

Boosting Biodiversity at Caravan Club sites began in 2006. The aim is to help members and wardens get more out the wildlife and nature that surrounds them. So for example some wardens are leaving areas of unmown grass in order to encourage insects, wild flowers and grasses to flourish.

As a family we love the outdoors and avidly dedicate time to doing activities outdoors. We have tried to encourage the girls to get to know more native trees and birds and any efforts by the Caravan Club site to promote nature has to be celebrated.

We did spot a biodiversity area at Salisbury Hillside; a corner of unmown grass had a selection of wild flowers growing in it. This did not count as visiting a Biodiversity site though.

Rowena on Club Together gave us a list of potential places and we chose Chapel Lane, Birmingham since it slotted into the route we were taking. The site, in their attempt to gain the Biodiversity status, planted wild poppies to commemorate the centenary of World War 1.

Some of the sites also offer an art competition for children. Amy and Ella love drawing (and art in general) so both leapt at the chance to enter The Club’s competition. The wildlife theme suited them both too.

In glorious sunshine they both lay on the grass by the caravan drawing and painting their entries. Ella’s contained hidden mini-beasts that she’d spotted on her nature walk and Amy celebrated the site’s biodiversity alongside the recent World War 1 celebrations by painting a simple poppy.

Good luck to them both.
