Challenge 56 - Visit two places from the Caravan Club’s Great Days Out
Guide using the money-saving vouchers – Part 2: Warwick castle

Warwick castle is a stone’s throw (or a trebuchet launch!) from Warwickshire Racecourse Caravan Club site. So after wandering into Warwick for breakfast we strolled into the castle grounds for a full day of exploring. Entrance to the castle is very expensive so we were very glad to be able to use our 2 for 1 Caravan Club Great Days Out voucher.

Warwick Castle is part of the Merlin Entertainment Group so there are elements of the Group identify that are seen at other locations such as Alton Towers, such as signage, food and beverage stands and even the very commercial and overpriced Merlin Tower. But the castle has also retained its own identity and the staff are amazingly polite, positive and informed. The history team certainly know their stuff and were able to give detailed responses to any questions that the girls had for them.

Inside, the castle offers many attractions including the Opening of the Portculis, a Birds of Prey display, a Bowman display, Historical tours, walks around the ramparts and turrets and an impressive trebuchet display that launches a fireball 500m across over woodland.

Visiting on the 1st September meant that we had just missed the summer holiday extravaganza – there were fewer crowds but unfortunately the girls were not able to join in with the additional games and Horrible History related facts that had been offered in the previous six weeks. Nevertheless, the day was crammed full of fun and fascinating experiences.

The girls learnt a lot by reading, watching and talking to the team. It was particularly entertaining watching them being coached on how to walk like ladies by the Victorian governess. We enjoyed the day so much we had to return the following morning (for
only £1) to visit what we had missed.
