Challenge 5 – Go rock pooling

Whitby and in particular Sandsend was a pleasant drive from our caravan site near Pickering. The weather was hot and sunny so a day at the beach seemed ideal and would give us an opportunity to carry out some of our beach related challenges.

We arrived at high tide but as the tide went out shelves of rock appeared and in them varying sizes of rock pools. Each rock pool contained a variety of seaweed (5 according to Ella) and loads of snails!

We also managed to spot anemones, hermit crabs, shrimp and shore crabs. As well as this, the rocks were adorned with glimmering fossils.

We seemed to spend hours wandering from pool to pool gazing in at the miniature sea habitats.

This was a simple but thoroughly enjoyable challenge - we all loved it - including Nana and Grandad Meek Happy
