#XploreMore 2014 - Task 33 - Create an outdoor sculpture or your own land art

This story happened on: 17/08/2014

This challenge isn’t about being a great artist or any other natural skill; it’s about being creative. So, anyone can do it.

There are so many different materials outside like pine cones, grass, leaves and stones that can be used to create an amazing outdoor masterpiece. Like mentioned before, the idea of this activity is to let that imagination in you go and use various things that you wouldn’t normally use for art. For example, your creature could be made by painting with a stick using puddle water, or created by arranging twigs and pinecones and grass. You could, if stuck for ideas, make a real animal. To make your creature even more realistic, you could add stones for eyes and layered leaves for the texture of the skin. It’s up to you. There are no right or wrongs.

Tips and considerations

  • Try not to do this on a windy day as every time you go looking for materials, the rest will blow away!

  • DON’T pick any berries if you don’t know what they are – the same goes for leaves.

  • Avoid using wild flowers.

  • If you do include berries in your masterpiece, try to keep a close eye on them as ants are quite cheeky – they do come and steal your fruits if you’re not careful!
