#XploreMore 2014 - Task 22 - Visit 2 Castles and find about them

This story happened on: 31/07/2014

We love castles! They are so exciting to visit and interesting - I'd have enjoyed history more at school if we'd visited historical sites more instead of reading text books!

Anyway, two castles we have enjoyed visitng:

1. Hermitage Castle
A superb Motte and Bailey castle - Norman design - in stunning surroundings. It is very atmospheric. Apparently, this castle featured in the fiming of Macbeth.

Buit by Nicholas de Soulis around 1240.

2. Kielder Castle
An 18th Centuary hunting lodge built by the Duke of Northumberland.

Is this a real  castle? Well, it looks like one. This castle got us discussing the definition of a castle, especially considering the saying 'A man's home is his castle'.

Bascially, anything can be considered a castle if it offers you protection and refuge.

So, Ellie - our Elddis Xplore 574 - is our castle... that's castle number three on our list of castles visited :)
