#XploreMore 2014 - Site 12 - Kielder Forest

This story happened on: 11/08/2014

We’re back in England, just over the border from our stay in Lidalia. Kielder is an area we have visited before and we like it because there is plenty to do.  The Caravan Club site (affiliated) has a beautiful view over the reservoir and there are a variety of facilities on offer and close at hand: restaurant, shop, swimming pool, skating rink, crazy golf, playgrounds as well as ferry trips and watersports hire. The girls therefore were in their element. After soon making friends with other girls of their age, they disappeared to explore the woods and playgrounds.

Being at the site for four nights meant we were able to complete many more challenges. The large body of water meant we were able to see if our boats floated (which they did!), the woodland area meant we were able to sit in a hide and spot birds (unfortunately not red squirrels this time!) as well as build a den which if it hadn’t been for all the midges, the girls might have slept in too! When the weather took a turn for the worst and it rained heavily for two days, we cracked on with some of the indoor challenges; this involved a very long game of Monopoly and a quiz on Frozen.

The Kielder site was a great base and we enjoyed spending time there; we will definitely be back later in the year for a spot of star gazing on the darker evenings.

Note: if you're thinking the photo of the site looks like a model / miniature site, I experiement with the 'tiltshift' effect - fun, eh?
