#XploreMore 2014 - site 1 - Woodborough

This story happened on: 13/05/2014

Woodborough is beautiful village on the outskirts of Nottingham and a wonderful spot for the first stop with our new Xplore 574 caravan. The site is located at the edge of the village and is surrounded by fields and farmland. A secluded, quiet and welcoming site, Old Manor Farm is very relaxing – a real getaway!

Waking up in the early hours and being able to walk the dog across green fields instead of the streets of a housing estate was a treat for both Tim (chief dog walker) and Sally (chief walking dog)!

We are total newbies to caravanning and this showed in the evening when we returned to collect our van after work, and to pull away after our first unsupported 'hitching' of the caravan onto our van. The overnight rain had made the grass rather soggy and our front wheels started wheel-spinning and sinking! Remember what Bernie said... 'no revs, pull away on tick-over'. Still no luck! I had to give it some revs as the inertia of the van was too much and we nearly stalled. More wheel-spinning!

I was worried about making a mess of the lovely field we were pitched on, more so when I saw the Warden walking over!

But worry not, this very friendly and laid back Warden came to offer his assistance, and ultimately we managed between us all to move the caravan into a position that made pulling away wheel-spin-free.

OK, so far we've had a night time two involving reversiing back down a side street onto a main road, towing through a city, and now being stuck in mud. On the plus side; all good experiences already under our belts!
