Why is the caravan such an attraction?

This story happened on: 03/11/2014

For a non-magnetic box our caravan proved to be a real magnet for children this week! It was the hub of activity as the girls arranged for friends to come over for sleepovers and days playing at the site that we were staying at.

While we are travelling around the country in our caravan for the foreseeable future, educating the girls en-route, the area of concern that many ask us about is friendship. Our daughters are both very sociable and confident meeting new people in most contexts but we as parents value their friendships and work hard to ensure that they can keep in touch with their "besties" or "BFF"s. The digital world allows them to contact friends on a regular basis, a few evenings during the week but face to face contact is important so since starting our ed-venture we have returned to Nottingham a couple of times.

During half term week we were backwards and forwards picking up and dropping off the girls and their friends. Rather than try to escape the caravan for a few days and nights in bricks and mortar, it became the popular attraction. The warm weather and rural location meant the girls and their buddies could slip in and out of the caravan to do a range of indoor and outdoor activities. One successful activity that Ella and her friend did was create a Halloween-themed treasure trail for other children.

Caravans are ideal for families; we see sites fill up during holiday weeks and weekends and the buzz of children electrifies the atmosphere. So many children choose to remain indoors in front of screens but on a caravan site, they choose to go outdoors, play, socialise and create their own fun.
