Strathclyde stopover

This story happened on: 08/05/2016

Yep we're heading up to Scotland again. Weirdly, we've timed it so that we are going at exactly the same time as last year - not intentional! We finished our coast to coast walk along Hadrian's wall in Bowness on Solway and could see Scotland across the water. With aching limbs we jumped into the motorhome and headed over the border.

To break up the journey to Fort William, we stopped in Strathclyde Country Park site for a couple of nights. This is a convenient point to stop if travelling further north (or south), since its not far from the motorway and of course there's plenty to do. The site is situated right in the middle of the Country Park where you can walk and cycle. It is very cycle friendly with lots of paths and a speed limit of 15 miles per hour for any vehicles. The country park also contains a theme park (which was closed during our stay), playgrounds and watersports.

We don't tend to eat out very often but when meeting up with a friend opted for the nearby Toby Carvery, a short walk from the site. They serve some very reasonably priced delicious food and they do a good Scottish breakfast too!

totally agree, we stayed there to spend New Year with our daughter who lives in Glasgow (but only has a 1 bed flat). Before we went out for Hogmany the wardens invited us all in for a wee dram and a chat, they were great, and the Toby breakfast set us up nicely for the long journey home. Cold though - we certainly tested the insulation on our Aquaroll!
