Stop Off at Englethwaite

This story happened on: 10/05/2015

Englethwaite provides the ideal stopping point for travelling further north, a short distance from Carlisle, before crossing over the border. Rather than travel long distances towing a caravan, it is a pleasant way to break up the journey, see different parts of the country and try different Caravan Club sites. This site is relatively small and neatly packed into the beautiful surrounding landscape of the Lake District forests and meadows.

The blurb on the Caravan Club website says, "Come for a night, stay for a week" indicating that this is probably the case for many of the visitors that frequent this site. I wish we could say we did. Since we were on our way up to Scotland we didn't allow time to explore the area but I'm sure we will return. In the short time that we were there, a stretch of the legs took us into the nearby woodland for a beautiful walk. In another direction, there was a nearby lake and hidden in the grounds there is a squirrel hide for those keen to spot resident red squirrels - something we would love to do on a second visit.
