One night stop at Kluthsee Camp & Seeblick

This story happened on: 26/08/2016

We're back in Germany on the return route to England. We have two stops planned in Germany. The first is at KluthseeCamp & Seeblick in the Klein Rönnau region of northern Germany (the neck between the North Sea and the Baltic). Our stay at this site was short; after a long-ish journey from Denmark (5 hours) we arrived late afternoon and left the following morning.

The KluthseeCamp & Seeblick is a large site and as the name suggests comprises and two halves that spread over the road. We were staying in the KluthseeCamp side where the main reception and facilities were. When checking in you are given a key fob; this gives you access through the barrier and needs to be used to enter the sanitary block. Showers are free. The reception has an area with sofas and comfy seating; this is for guests to sit at when using wifi since it is the only part of the site where wifi is available. It is free but is only accessible for one hour a day. This is to avoid teenagers spending all day sat at screens in the reception area, we were informed.

Beside reception there is a swimming pool, a rectangular shaped pool which is outdoor but half covered by a roof. The swimming pools costs
2.20 per day. There is also a sauna and spa treatments which can be booked and paid for at reception. On the day that we were visiting it was 'Women's day'. A selection of bikes and carts are displayed outside and are for hire. Behind the reception building is a large area for sports and activities: there is a playground, 2 volleyball courts, a grass football pitch and a concrete basketball court. The site has its own shop, laundry facilities and restaurant which has themed nights such as pig roast and steak night.

The site is popular with touring visitors but also semi / permanent residents with fenced off gardens, sheds and fixed awnings / extensions. The touring visitors (tents, caravans and motorhomes) can pitch on a flat grassy area near the main facilities (as well as over the road at the other half of the site). Pitches are not clearly marked but have access to water and an electricity post.

As with many of the sites that we've stayed at, there is a lake nearby, at the bottom of the hill. In some parts of the site, you can overlook the lake. A short walk takes you down to the lakeside where there is a grassy bank beside which there is marked off swimming area. Sailing boats also use the lake. Not far from the lake there is a restaurant / bar serving food and drink. Many cyclists and walkers use the path around the lake as a traffic-free way to explore.

KluthseeCamp & Seeblick is a pleasant site and would be a good base to explore the area. The reception provides information and leaflets about nearby attractions such as a wildlife park and theme park.
