No royalty but lots of deer at Sandringham

Well, we didn't spot the Queen or any of the royal family come to mention it, which is surprising considering how close we were to their residence, and the fact that Kate and Will were in this neck of the woods (quite literally) for some of the time. But, we did see deer. Walking through the woods of the Sandringham estate, we were fortunate enough to spot muntjac and fallow deer, including some impressive white fallow deer.
The Sandringham estate is well-established and a popular site for returning regulars. Many of the people we spoke to had been to the site before and were keen to offer advice on must-see places in the area. You don't have to go far:
- Stay on site and wander the paths in the local woodland or Sandringham Country Park. If you walk quietly, you may get a lucky sighting of some deer. Take a picnic and have lunch in the woods.
- Go to Sandringham Country Park playground - an impressive playground using natural materials.
- Visit the King's Lyn museum and learn about the sea henge that was discovered on the Holme-next-to-the-sea.
- Go to the RSPB Titchwell nature reserve where you can see both salt and freshwater marshes. The impressive hides provide shelter and clear views of the wide range of birds at the centre and the staff are more than happy to share their knowledge.
- Go to the newly refurbished Sea Life sanctuary in Hunstanton.
- Watch the sun set at Hunstanton, supposedly the only place on the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea.
- Eat fish and chips on the sea front at Hunstanton. Walk along the prom.
- Drive along the sea coast and appreciate the views.
- Walk some of the coastal path.
There's plenty more to see and do but these were the ones we managed to fit in. We'll just have to return to do and see more in the future.
