Family In:site into The Firs

This story happened on: 10/10/2015

When we lived in Nottingham we would often escape into Derbyshire at the weekend for walks and adventure. Returning to this neck of the woods was nostalgic so of course we visited some of our favourite spots.

Two super spots for families include:

Dovedale
Dovedale is a valley in the Peak District, about 18 miles from The Firs site. It is a pleasant drive through the countryside and a beautiful location for a walk. Leaving the car park, the most popular route is along the river and across the stepping stones. For those wanting a mini challenge, Thorpe Cloud, the mini peak alongside the river, provides a short ascent with rewarding views (on a good day). There are plenty of other walks around the area but the river walk and Thorpe Cloud should provide a fun few hours for any family seeking time in the outdoors.

Carsington Water
Carsington Reservoir is a very popular family attraction offering a wide range of activities to suit all. The visitor centre provides information about the area as well as a cafe, shops and super little museum about how water is treated in the reservoir. The more active visitors can walk or cycle the distance around the body of water or alternatively hire watersports equipment from the watersports centre. Nature lovers will enjoy the birds and probably like to spend time in the hides trying to catch a glimpse. The kids of course will love the playground. It is a large playground suited for a wide age range. It can be quite busy at the weekend. We went late one afternoon and cooked our tea in the outdoors while the girls played: pancakes at the playground.
