Family In:site into Moreton-in-Marsh

This story happened on: 25/06/2015

Moreton-in-Marsh is a large popular site nestled in the beautiful, picturesque Cotswolds. Although the site accommodates many caravans and motorhomes, you never feel like you're one of a hundred and something. We were tucked away on a grassy patch behind the toilet block. It was nice to be back on grass again, something we prefer now the weather is better.
During our stay we were lucky enough to have Alfresco Pizza (http://www.pizza-alfresco.co.uk/) - pizzas cooked in their wood-fired ovens. These delicious were a tasty treat to complete our Roman day (see below)!

Our stay here was only short (three nights) but we intend to return because there is plenty that we missed and would love to see.

Places to see and visit:

Cotswolds villages
The Cotswolds is full of idyllic villages with quaint streets lined with honey coloured cottages adorned with pretty plants. A short walk out of the Caravan Club site takes you into Moreton-in-Marsh and a short drive takes you into Bourton-on-the-Water, regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England. So whether you're walking or driving around the area you'll be able to appreciate the views of both towns, villages and countryside in one of prettiest parts of the country.

Chedworth Roman Villa National Trust site

Chedworth Roman Villa is a National Trust site, near Cheltenham. The ruins of one of the largest Romano-British villa have been lovingly restored and housed in a state of the art building. Impressive Roman mosaics can be viewed up close from a suspended walk way as you wander around learning about the different rooms within the villa. Children and adults can dress up in Roman clothes that are provided or you could make your own, which our girls did as part of the learning.
There are ongoing excavations taking place over the next few years, revealing hopefully more mosaics as well as much more of other wings of this large villa. The staff there are passionate and proud of the place and the Roman period and willingly share their knowledge with visitors. They do offer guided tours, audio tours and numerous events throughout the year.
We easily spent about 5 hours wandering around, reading, listening, looking and absorbing the atmosphere and thoroughly recommend a family visit.

Cotswolds Way
There are plenty of places to walk around this lovely location. We chose to complete some of the Cotswolds Way (http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/cotswold-way) as part of our 500 Fresh Air Miles challenge (http://www.dotrythisathome.com/category/500-fresh-air-miles/). This National Trail covers a distance of just over 100 miles between Chipping Campden and Bath. We completed a small section (6 miles) between the beautiful villages of Broadway and equally beautiful village Stanway. This was not a circular walk therefore required two cars which on this occasion was possible.
Another walk that was recommended to us by a friendly lady in the Tourist Information office was a circular walk through the streets of Broadway up to the Broadway Tower with spectacular views over many counties. This walk, although a little shorter (4 miles) would be a fabulous way to take in some of the sights of the Cotswolds and return to the starting point.

Great site to walk ,cycle or drive from to the many lovely villages and to experience the perfect English country side.

Trains leave Moreton to London,Oxford and other places. If you enjoy a pint then there are many good pubs in the area serving serving lovely beers and most provide bar food or something a bit more special. It is 3 years since we last visited this site  and then we enjoyed the Italian restaurant and the best fish and chips during our 4 stays over recent years. Everything is convenient including the bus outside the site gates.
