Family In:site into Hebden Bridge CC Site

This story happened on: 14/03/2015

"Ahhh, there's no toilet block!" was the first thing we said when we arrived at this small, quiet location, up the hill from Hebden Bridge. It's funny how accustomed you get to the Caravan Club toilet block but it isn't a necessity and life carries on without them; after all life in a caravan is quite self sufficient at times.

The site offers only 54 pitches and is located by a pleasantly calming stream and tucked amongst trees. Being such as small site, the reception is only manned during certain hours during the day, namely the mornings and an hour in the afternoon.

Places to visit / things to do:

Hebden Bridge
The bustling town of Hebden Bridge isn't far away. There is a very pleasant walk from the site into the town; a path alongside the canal leads into the town where there is a wide selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, many still displaying their Victorian signage and facades.

Eureka
The National Children's Museum, Eureka, is located in Halifax, approximately 8 miles away and provides a wealth of hands-on information about a range of subjects. Aimed at primary children and below, the two floors cover subjects from everyday jobs to habitats around the world and the highlight of the museum: all about me (the Body). It is quite expensive and, even though the cost covers annual membership, it does seem excessive for a four hour visit. Take into account that there is a car parking fee included too. Saying that, it is a good learning location for the kids.

Salts Mill
This was recommended to us by some local friends and is a surprising find. It is a grade II listed historic mill built by Titus Salt in 1853, impressive for its time. The spectacular building and surrounding area have earned the status of UNESCO World Heritage site. The building now contains art galleries, restaurants, cafes and independent shops, including Salts Books.
Salts Mill, in Saltaire near Bradford, 16 miles from the Hebden Bridge CC site, is worth a trip. The galleries display fascinating pieces of art by Bradford born David Hockney, a fitting tribute. There are no admission costs and most of the galleries, shops and eating places are open 7 days a week.

We live fairly locally and visit Salts Mill regularly - well worth the trip. Recommend the pub/bistro outide the entrance "Don't Tell Titus" I believe he was temperance inclined!

Also consider the walk up to Hardcastle Crags above Hebden Bridge and Gibson Mill (NT).
