Carsington Waters Caravan Site

This story happened on: 03/11/2014

Carsington Waters is situated near the Seven Trent reservoir, south of the dam, nestled in the middle of a pine woodland. Images on Google Maps clearly shows how hidden it is from the surrounding countryside and it certainly provided us with plenty of shelter for the tail end of hurricane Gonzalo! The area for pitches is open and the usual toilet block is located centrally.

Carsington Waters was a regular weekend visit when we lived in Nottingham therefore it was great to return to a familiar location. The Caravan Club site is a short drive and walk to the visitor centre, where there is plenty to do. A walk or cycle around the whole reservoir is 8 miles and bikes can be hired from the visitor centre. For bird watchers, there is a nature reserve and a few bird hides in which to sit and appreciate the abundance of birdlife. A popular sailing club neighbours the visitor centre but those wishing to hire equipment can do so at the watersports centre; equipment and training is provided for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and SUPing. One major attraction is the playground; the girls spent many hours playing on the large playground.

The Carsington Waters Caravan site is also an ideal base for exploring the Peak District, its many town and cities, attractions and countryside.
